How ironic.

I appreciate what AF4C has done in the past although, thanks to unlucky
tiebreaks, I never directly benefited from it. I appreciate that AF4C
donated large sums of money for little or nothing in return. And I
understand Bill Goichberg's desire to give AF4C a lot of leeway in
finding new sources of sponsorship, considering how much they've done
in the past.

However, the buck should have stopped sooner than January 2007. It was
clear to me, an informed outsider, by the end of the summer that the
chances of AF4C dropping out were greater than 50%. The USCF had an
obligation to either publicize the problem or to set a firm final
deadline for AF4C. Turning 60 days of waiting into 300 days was wrong
for the players and wrong for the USCF.
Anderson insisted all year long that he had a sponsor and wanted to
hold the event; USCF did not push him to hold it. If USCF had insisted
on an answer sooner, perhaps we would have been where we are now a few
months earlier, but I think more likely he would have resented not
being given the chance he asked for, making future cooperation less
likely. We are going to receive his $25,000 donation now, and don't
know if that would have happened had we not given him the time we did.

In late December and early January, I was more optimistic than I had
been in a long time about AF4C plans for the Championship. They had
finally started to move with details, reappointing their main organizer
of the previous year (though now representing ICC). Dates were
announced for the two online qualifiers, and a more realistic time for
the Championship itself (March was now too soon, but May made sense).
Henderson told me that at Anderson's request, he was writing up a
proposal to be sent to Anderson, who would forward it to USCF if he
approved. Then I heard that he approved. I do not believe that any of
this was fakery; if Anderson intended to pull out he would have had no
motive for pretending to move forward.

But soon after, the word was that AF4C's major sponsor had lost
interest due to internet postings. I see no reason not to believe this.
If I was a potential sponsor who knew little about USCF, and then
learned that an Executive Board member was charging a former World
Champion with stealing a computer and alleging a past relationship with
her, I would probably lose interest too.

As for my spot in the US Championship, I would be happy to play
but I'm expecting nothing anymore. If the USCF needs to cut the field
to save money, then I can, sadly, accept that. The gravy train has
derailed.

Michael Aigner
I see no need to cut the field and think funding of at least $50,000 is
likely, but even if we have only $25,000, we can hold a 9-round Swiss.
I recommend that you start preparing to play.

Bill Goichberg
Bill Goichberg has posted elsewhere that it was entirely because of Sam
Sloan that "we the people" backed out of sponsoring the US
Championship.

(For those of you not in the know, the term "we the people" is Wall
Street slang or an euphemism or nickname for the largest brokerage
firm. We all know who that is.)

However, above Bill states that it is because of "Internet Postings"
that "we the people" changed their minds and droped out.

Now, who were those Internet postings from? Goichberg implies that they
were all from Sam Sloan.

However, Mig Greengard has been very critical of arrangements for the
US Championship on his chessninja.com website.

Similarly, Susan Polgar was highly critical of the 2006 US Championship
on her susanpolgar.blogsopt.com site and had written very controversial
remarks about arrangements for the 2007 US Championship on her blog as
well.

Jerry Hanken revealed for the first time publicly the real name of "we
the people" in his interview of Hikaru Nakamura posted on uschess.org .

On the other hand, almost all of my criticism of Bill Goichberg's
handling of this situation has been in private email messages to other
members of the board, and in postings to the USCF Forums, which can
only be read by members of the USCF who are registered to view the
forums.

Therefore, since "we the people" is not a member of the USCF, "we the
people" could not possibly have been influenced by the postings by Sam
Sloan.

EXCEPT THAT, Bill Goichberg had Sam Sloan censured by a 3-0-4 vote
(four voters abstained) and then in announcing the censure had three
Sam Sloan emails which were private emails to the other board members
publicly posted to the Internet, including to rec.games.chess.politics,
where "we the people" obviously could have read them. One of these
three emails which were publicly posted by Bill Goichberg was highly
critical of Bill Goichberg regarding the 2007 US Championship.

Thus, is seems clear that it was because of Bill Goichberg himself that
"we the people" pulled out, assuming that everything Bill says is true.
(Personally, I do not believe that "we the people" were ever going to
sponsor the US Championship, because it is not their style.)

Next, Bill Goichberg refers to "an Executive Board member was charging
a former World Champion with stealing a computer and alleging a past
relationship with her".

It needs to be pointed out that we have heard from Truong that the
computer was old and worth not more than $500 and he offered to pay
$1000 for it. Well, since the computer is worth so little, Susan and
Truong should without hesitation GIVE IT BACK. We are not interested in
getting just any four year old laptop. We are interested in the data it
contains. We want to know why Frank Niro reported that the USCF had a
$300,000 surplus, but when the auditors report came out the USCF had a
$300,000 loss. We also want to know what the true relationship was
between Niro and Polgar and Truong to such an extent that they would
purloin the computer from the USCF Offices. I do not believe that Frank
Niro had a heart attack on August 7, 2003, the day that he was supposed
to fly to Los Angeles to attend the USCF delegate's meeting. He wrote a
check to himself for $1150.00 on that date. Why was he supposedly in a
hospital in Connecticut on a day when he was supposed to be traveling
from New York to Los Angeles? And, if he was in the hospital, why did
he tell nobody in the USCF about it, while telling Polgar and Truong
about it? And, is it not a fact that Niro then went to live in Polgar
and Truong's building in Forest Hills, Queens New York at a time when
nobody else knew where he was.

As to my "alleging a past relationship with her" Bill Goichberg forced
me to do that by bombarding both the USCF Executive Board and the USCF
Attorney Michael Matsler with allegations about that before I was even
on the board. Bill Goichberg forced me to reveal secrets that I have
not spoken of for the past twenty years except to a few close friends.
I said that Bill was acting "Like a Bull in a China Shop", forcing me
to reveal things that I did not want to reveal. Now that Bill has been
successful in forcing me to reveal a few details (and I have by no
means told the whole story. I have just scratched the surface.), he
wants to condemn me for revealing what he forced me to reveal.

Why do we put up with this!!!!!!!!!!!
You sound like Joel Channing.

At the USCF Executive Board meeting in Stamford, Connecticut, on
November 17, 2006, Joel Channing asked me a hostile question in Closed
Session, which I insisted on answering in Open Session.

After Myron Lieberman had changed the tape, changing it from the Closed
Session tape to the Open Session tape, I started to answer Mr.
Channing's question.

As I tried to answer his question, Mr. Channing started screaming
hysterically, "Stop Him! Stop Him! Somebody Stop Him! Can't Somebody Do
Something! Stop Him!"

I am waiting for that tape to be posted on uschess.org . It has still
not been posted. Will it ever be posted, or will this information that
the members need to know be suppressed?

Sam Sloan
