From chessdiscussion today:
by PaulTruong on Mon Mar 10, 2008 3:40 pm I have the highest respect for Mark Nibbelin, Sevan Muradian and Bill Brock. They are good and honest people and they have done quite a bit for chess. I am sorry to hear that their reputations are being challenged. Best regards, PT ------------------------------------------------ Regarding Mr. Muradian, the victim of a false post under her name in the erotic section of Craig's List on 12/29/2006 inviting men to join her for a party of a sexual nature ringing in the New Year detailed this occurrence to me a few days ago. After receiving several calls from men seeking to attend the "party," one of them alerted her to the Craig's List post. That post was pulled from Craig's List by the poster, but the text and other information for it was subsequently obtained. Relative to that post, the victim has shown me a copy of a Grand Jury Subpoena issued for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, filed on January 17, 2007 directing Comcast to provide all data regarding the Craig's List post made via Comcast as the poster's internet service provider. The victim has shown me a written response from Comcast to that Grand Jury Subpoena dated January 24, 2007 identifying the subscriber so posting to Craig's list as Sevan Muradian, with a specific street address in Chicago, Illinois. The victim and her husband, a uniformed police officer, advise that the State's Attorney did not prosecute because he believed that the laws as then written did not give him grounds for acting under Illinois law. Mr. Brock quite rightly noted his disgust with this occurance in a post to the ICA discussion forum on March 2, 2007 stating, "And today I heard about someone else in the Illinois chess community who was the victim of an unspeakably vile posting on craigslist.... Very depressing: who could be so petty as to inflict such pointless pain on another person?" Interestingly, a similar defense to the hijacking of Truong's computer surfaces today in this matter. Apparently, some would have us believe that the victim framed Mr. Muradian by driving past his house where Mr. Muradian (an expert in computer security) used a non-encrypted wifi connection that allow the victim to hijack his computer and make the post in question to Craig's List thereby framing him. I have only seen copies of the documents noted above. I suppose they could be spurious, but I tend to think they are genuine and will provisionally assume so until shown otherwise. If I were Mr. Brock or Mr. Nibbelin I think I would consider denying knowing Mr. Truong. |
