I think you recognize and agree that during my one year on the board I
consistently advocated a big cut in expenses. In particular, I
advocated very specific cuts that would have reduced expenses by
$80,000 without any reduction in services to the membership.

Unfortunately, at that time the board was deadlocked. I could only get
two-and a half to three votes to cut expenses. With a six-member
board, at long as three board members were adamantly opposed to a cut
in expenses, it was impossible to get any thing cut.

I am opposed to cutting eight pages in Chess Life. A subscription to
Chess Life is the only benefit most members receive. We should cut
areas which are of little or no benefit to the members. Unfortunately,
it is politically impossible to cut the "sacred cows" of the board, so
I do not see any solution to the problem.

The US CHess Trust has begun operating a seperate online magazine and
appears to be positioning itself. WHats up with that?
