Cheap chess memberships per se won't attract large numbers of members. State
associations are generally cheap, have newsletters and website... and
generally
have small memberships and little growth. A chess federation, association,
club, league or whatever has to have an "attraction" in order to "attract."
Don't forget that when dealing with the chess playing universe one is usually
dealing with a universe of slow moving human sloths. (RSHaas)

Okay, we have the name:

The EROTIC CHESS FEDERATION.

Sex up the game, keep the kids out, lock the doors....

If you want to believe in the USCF, go right ahead. I have lost my high
opinion of them. I am a little confused as to why anything they "sanction"
should have any more weight than any other organization, considering their
destructive tendencies.

1. Agreement
2. History
3. formed by agreement
4. Sanctioned by FIDE

These are very powerful, much more so than they sound.

You're not being specific about what the problem is with
this idea. Maybe there isn't any. There is also the WBCA,
why not compare it to that?

WBCA is either in fact or in effect a sanctioned body. ACA
sanctions itself. The difference is fairly clear.

Huh? Who sanctions the WBCA?

USCF, by default.

ACA could do a better job, if it, well, did a better job.

Well duh.

Kevin,

Just seems like a bow to custom, and nothing more. Was it not Alekine and/or
Lasker who were involved in creating FIDE? Anyone can create anything.
Custom means nothing, especially when you have an organization which has
turned its back on the game and the players, in favor of politics.

FIDE is less than a hundred years old, the USCF pretty much the same. I'd be
far more impressed if they had been around for a couple thousand years, no
matter how powerful they are.

And yes, the ACA has zero debt.

I understand Kevin Bachler and Cheatman Chess Club are joining.
