Default I met the Great Ed Trice

I just got back from the World Open in Philadelphia. On July 6, 2008,
yesterday, just before leaving the playing site, I met the Great Ed
Trice. This meeting was made possible by Dan Heisman, whose name is
often mentioned in connection with Ed Trice and the "My 61 Memorable
Games" Hoax.

I then introduced Ed Trice to Jerry Hanken, who promised to interview
him.

Ed Trice was walking around the World Open wearing a "My 61 Memorable
Games" t-shirt.

I did not have much time to speak to Ed Trice because my last game had
just finished and I was rushing to catch the last bus back to New
York. Last year and the year before, it happened that I had to stay
another night in Philadelphia after the World Open because all the
buses to New York were full, this being the conclusion of July 4th
weekend. Therefore I was rushing to get to the bus station so that
this would not happen again, especially since I had my wife and six-
year-old daughter with me. (Fortunately, I made it. I caught one of
the last Chinese buses to New York and by chance I got a seat next to
Grandmaster Leonid Yudasin, who analyzed and commented on my pet
Damiano's Defense on the bus trip back to New York.)

Ed Trice said that he was the last American to be in contact with
Bobby Fischer before Fischer died and that he had arranged a 15
million dollar match between Fischer and Karpov just before Fischer
died. Ed Trice also said that Susan Polgar had agreed to take
Fischer's place in the match in case Fischer walked out after the
match had started. (I did not think to ask, but I assume that Susan
wanted part of that $15 million.)

Ed Trice had many uncomplimentary things to say about Ed Labate.

Ed Trice said a lot of other things too. However, I was rushing to
catch the bus and did not write them down.

Ed Trice said that he had traveled to Iceland with Frank Camaratta.
They did not get to meet Fischer on that trip. However, Ed Trice had
made two other trips to Iceland alone and on the third trip he got to
meet Fischer.

To learn more about Ed Trice, read his biography on Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Trice

However, be forewarned that many of the claims made in that biography
seem doubtful or are unverifiable.

Edward Labate will soon own that t-shirt when he wins his $21.2
million lawsuit against Trice. Trice has been served and his days are
numbered.

Trice seems to have given up on Gothic Chess as a going concern and
now works for "Four Incorporated":

I can't find any sign of this company online, could he mean "Fantastic
Four Incorporated"? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Are you sure you met the famous Ed Trice and not his dunder-headed
1342 rated cousin?
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...id=1593 69879

Here are the USCF member details for the cousin of Edward A Trice, who
is also, rather confusingly, also called Edward A Trice:
http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlTnmtHst.php?12495284

I must inform the chessgames.com guys about this mistake, as one of
the 1342 rated Ed Trice's games has mistakenly been included in the
page for the famous Ed Trice:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1493593

And, to add to the confusion, the famous Ed Trice has commented on
this game as if it's his own. My god, if Ed Trice can't tell himself
apart from his cousin, what chance do we have?

Good catch. The comments by Ed Trice on chessgames.com prove that the
Ed Trice who is rated 1342 by the USCF is the same person as the Ed
Trice who claims to be a master with a 2227 rating.

http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlTnmtHst.php?12495284

The game shown is also clearly a game by a 1342 strength player.

Somebody should inform Wikipedia about this. I am banned from
Wikipedia in retaliation for filing the Sloan vs. Truong "Fake Sam
Sloan" lawsuit in federal court.

My condolences; however, congratulations for your great performance
at the World Open: +2 -6 in the U2000, several did worse.

I must admit that I played horribly at this World Open. I have an
excuse. I had not played since the August 2007 US Open in Cherry Hill.
Perhaps this explains why on the first day of play in which I had to
play five games at game in 45, I made terrible blunders in four of the
games. In each game I had winning or nearly winning positions at the
time I made the blunder.

Next time, I should warm up by playing in some blitz or minor
tournaments before entering the World Open.

I played myself into form to some extent. I entered the Game in 10
tournament and actually gained rating points. Also in the main event
I won two of my last three games.

I expect that my rating will hit my floor of 1900 for the first time
in my life, after this 3-6 exceptionally poor performance when all of
my opponents were rated lower than me.

The only interesting point was that I played three of our top
scholastic players. I played Benjamin Moon who is our number 12 rated
player age 10, Christopher Wu, who is our number 4 rated player aged 9
and Miles Hinson who is not on the top lists apparently due to an
oversight because he is a 1829 rated player and he seems to be 11 or
12 years old.

The only even mildly interesting game was against Christopher Wu.
There are five players named Christopher Wu in the USCF rating lists.
This is the one from New Jersey.

I played my extremely solid Damiano's Defense, which goes 1. e4 e5 2.
Nf3 f6!!! Naturally, after 3. Nxe5 Black just plays 3. ... fxe5 and
Black is a knight ahead.

However, my 9-year-old opponent played what I call the Damiano's
Defense Declined by playing 3. Bc4. Since he is just a kid I wonder if
he even knew about 3. Nxe5.

He was using a Monroi. Steve Immitt asked whether this game was being
broadcast on the Internet. Does anybody know the answer to this
question?

On the bus back to New York, Grandmaster Yudasin demonstrated why he
is a much stronger player than I am by pointing out an easy win that
both of us had missed over the board. Remember that Yudasin was
commenting blindfolded while riding on a Chinese bus on an opening he
had never seen before, since Yudasin obviously does not spend much
time studying the Damiano's Defense.

I am wondering how many readers here can point out what Yudasin saw
but both players in the game missed. HINT: It involves a knight
sacrifice.

Anyway, the game developed into something similar to a Philador's
Defense. In the Philador's Defense, Black gets a cramped and
unpleasant position and he just hangs on and waits and hopes that
White does something foolish.

That is what I did and that is what finally happened. I found a nice
little combination at the end which my opponent did not see coming.
Even if he had seen it, I would have had an equal and playable game.

From Ed Trice: “OK Ed, let's hear your explanation. I'm sure someone
who always tells the truth has a very good explanation.”

My explanation Trice??? You can’t read…you’re an IDIOT.

Jon DSouzaEva is an Englishman with a BCF grading of 173, pretty close
to yours at the direction your rating’s taking, Mr. 1352!!

Look it up yourself.

Hi Edward,

I can't make head or tail of this one:

It's definitely "our" Ed Trice. If I read it correctly, he was
arrested for harassment of some kind, appealed, and was found not
guilty.

Nice work COLOMBO!! Yep, makes a lot sense Trice.

Here’s the original email that I simply copied and pasted, and removed

No you moron, all I did was copy and paste an email Jon DSouzaEva sent
to me without commentary. Your inability to comprehend appears to be
worse than your inability to play chess, Mr. 1352!!

Regarding coming to your website to post, I’ve already seen you
embellish, edit and remove other posts…remember Greg Strong!!! You’d
have me confessing to poisoning Bobby Fischer if I ever came near your
post. I’ll just wait for the depositions, discoveries and your
witness stand performances. I’m a patience man, especially when the
payoff is your total demise!!

You and I both know along with Frank Camaratta, Dan Heisman, Bruce
Towell, Cathy Purdy and various others that you were the ASSHOLE
behind the ‘My 61 Memorable Games’ Scam.

Here you are, you know the whole truth and yet, you are astoundingly
relentless on your bull ****!! You are the lowest of lows, the
slimest life force I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Don’t you have a lawsuit to answer?? And Trice, I won’t settle out of
court. I want to bury you once and for all…and a settlement will
allow you to return one day.

Edward Labate

P.S. NICE PICTURE Mr. GQ … ‘Can you say Discipline?’
