Why can't Stan Booz be a stand-up guy? He should simply admit that he did not know how to spell "Berkeley," a word that he rendered as "Berkley." West coast critcs simply can't see that names like "Alaska" may well be rendered as "'Lasker" by easterners, with their pidgeon English. "Berkeley" sounds much like Berkley or Berkly, even. "California" ends up as "Kalifornia" in the movies, and we all have known someone who mispronounces "Washington" as "Warshington." Of course, these same western critics will (unwittingly) mispronounce "Nyw Yawk" as "New Yowrk," and are speechless when queried as to what kind of pie Florida's islands are famous for. Still, it is understandable that a western surfer-dude critic may take exception to having one of "his" proud cities' names misspelled by a foreigner (Philadelphian). Jeezus-Pleezus! Was all that really necessary over so small a thing? Excuse me? SMALL a thing?? I'll have you know that the ommission of a vowel quite often causes the loss of an entire syllable, and that, in turn, could lead to the death of a word, or even a sentence! If we let them get out of control, the misspellers will soon be invading our paragraphs, then our very homes -- taking away our freedom of speech and then, our guns and chess sets. We have to nip them in the bud! Don't just sit there and do nothing, while these evil villains *take over* the internet. Stop them, before it's too late! - Koala Lumper |
