From 1962-1972, it wouldn't have mattered.

He was just BETTER.

There's a story about some class A player trying a fancy Sicilian line
against Fischer in some simul in the 60's. The A-player
unsurprisingly got clobbered and went on his way. A year or so later
he saw Fischer again at a tournament and asked for an autograph or
something. Fischer looks at him and says "I've seen you someplace
before". The A-player says "nah, we've only met once, I lost a simul
game, you wouldn't remember". Fischer thinks for a second and says
"oh yeah I remember that now, you played whatever, you should have
done this instead of going there." Nothing escaped Fischer.
