I just signed up for this at www.shopuschess.org. I think it was a
very good move for the USCF to bring this back, as it saves me time and money, and hopefully generates revenues for the USCF, as well as saving it the effort of reminding me to renew, etc.... Want to bet? Best Regards, Bruce Even if the only people that sign up for the program are people that would have renewed annually prior to their expiration date, there will be a savings in expenses. As I recall, renewal rates for first year adult members is about 30%, renewal rates for members in auto-renewal are double that rate. Grant Perks |

Accelerating revenue is only good when the $$ is being put to good use and if it does not result in a big ugly financial hole down the road, when the $$ would normally be paid. Otherwise it's just a gimmick. adp "Don Mihokovich" wrote in message om... I just signed up for this at www.shopuschess.org. I don't think we're talking about accelerated revenue here.
Each year's membership still comes in in the year it is due. The advantage is that USCF spends less in collecting it. It's also likely that some folks who wouldn't renew if they had to do something active will renew if they don't have to take any action to make it happen. TR "Angelo DePalma" wrote in message ... As I recall, renewal rates for first year adult members is about 30%, renewal rates for members in auto-renewal are double that rate. Grant Perks May I suggest the following then? When someone joins or renews (or arguably for any current non-life member) let's send them a SEPARATE mailing where they can elect to auto-renew by checking a box, filling in their CC number, and mailing it back. So that it doesn't get lost in the shuffle, this should be a separate mailing, and the outside should say something like "An opportunity to enjoy chess at a savings." Based on the renewal rate above, (and assuming it held up) I would think that if we get enought adult members into this program, this alone could halt the adult attrition. Kevin L. Bachler |

Bachler Kevin, Thanks for the suggestion. Partly along these lines, the office staff is sending out a letter early this week offering the auto-renewal program to those members who's memberships have recently expired. Office procedures used to include the mailing of a series of five reminder notices, including a last issue wrap around Chess Life. This was cut to three mailings without the expensive wrap. Purely for cost savings I suppose. We are in the process of revisiting the entire program of retaining members. I would expect that some of the current attrition is due to not having the wrap and additional mailing. Perhaps when an ED is appointed he will oversee a study of the effectiveness of the extra and different types of mailings. Grant Perks I would agree. I'd also offer a one time extra discount promotion if they come back in and sign up for auto-renew. I'm still curious how many of the ones we are losing are players as opposed to subscribers. We should also save on sending renewal notices. Just one confirming
invoice if that is the correct term. TR wrote: I don't think we're talking about accelerated revenue here. Each year's membership still comes in in the year it is due.
