The more I look, the more and more mistakes I find on the USCF website -
http://www.uschess.org How long has the first name of Chouchanik Airapetian, the Armenian-born player who has been in the USA since August 1994, been listed as Choucanian [sic] in the Players' Gallery of Selected Players from the Top 100 US Women? I realize that the website is a very low priority for the federation when facing more pressing issues, but isn't there someone (on the payroll) who is in charge of keeping the website up to date and correct? There is now so much outdated material and incorrect data on the site that a complete overhaul is now overdue. Sloppiness on the website can be indicative of sloppiness in the business office. I hope not. But if you look at the spelling (or more correctly misspelling) of tournament names on the membership service site - msa.uschess.org (when it comes back up after so-called improvements?!), you will see names of tournaments that were certainly not submitted by TDs or organizers. It is important that tournament names are correct. It is also imperative that memberships and membership renewals be processed as fast as possible and that rating reports be processed as equally as fast. Unless the federation improves its customer service, it will continue to lose members, especially adults - at a faster rate than it takes to process a simple membership. George Mirijanian |

Rather than post them in here, I suggest you e-mail any reports of web site errors to Joan DuBois, who is now in charge of web content? Her e-mail address is joandubois (at) uschess (dot) org. -- Mike Nolan |

Subject: Mistakes on USCF website need to be corrected
On 29 September 2003 Kenneth Sloan replied Message-id: (Miriling) writes: The more I look, the more and more mistakes I find on the USCF website - http://www.uschess.org do you send corrections to New Windsor, or do you just posture here? -- Kenneth Sloan Computer and Information Sciences (205) 934-2213 University of Alabama at Birmingham FAX (205) 934-5473 Birmingham, AL 35294-1170 http://www.cis.uab.edu/info/faculty/sloan/ I have sent corrections to New Windsor in the past, but I stopped doing it when I realized that they were being ignored. Maybe if enough people, including yourself, sent them (the same) corrections, they would listen. George Mirijanian |

I suppose we should be thankful that anyone's looking at the website. BTW, I forwarded George's post on to Joan DuBois and have been advised that the error George was concerned about has been fixed. (Errors that involve changes to the data on Al Losoff's site or to MSA will take some time before those sites show the corrected data. MSA membership updates are usually done by about 8AM ET, I think Al's site is currently updated about once a week.) -- Mike Nolan |

How would you suggest we check and correct the spelling of the names of
the 89,000 events and 169,000 sections that MSA can display? Given that we have nearly 12 years of tournament data available, data which was not collected with online retrieval in mind, complaints about mis-spellings seem rather petty. Yes, I think there are bigger fish to give CPR to. Regards, al |

You are really bullheaded and this is a really crappie thing to do, as you come down from your perch in Largo. Bassically, we should do what we need to do for the halibut if for no other reason. I cod hardly see any other reason to do it. Best Regards, Bruce |

I'd let you skate, but it would be a fluke, as I'm hard of herring. I'm not carping, honest! You pollack! Anyway this silly thread (one could say it smelt) brings to mind the old novelty song by Kip Adotta, called 'Wet Dreams.' Anyone remember it? |
