Let us not forget why we celebrate Thanksgiving:
We made the Native Americans cook for us and then we swindled them out of their land. As Martha Stewart might say: "Social Darwinism, it's a good thing." Tony D. |

Dear Mr. Dilucente,
Heil Dubya! There's a profound difference between swindling a people out of its land and murdering, pillaging and raping -- committing genocide -- to steal the land from the natives.Let us not forget why we celebrate Thanksgiving: We made the Native Americans cook for us and then we swindled them out of their land. Aren't you residing on Indian land yourself? Aren't you perpetuating the
crimes of your forefathers by doing so? Why not give it back (if it's yours now) or fight to have it returned (if not) and move out of America? I have a friend who annoys me every time he says, "It's a good thing." I figured it was something from TV and now you confirm it. "Tony D." -rat wrote in message ... I'd like to echo Angelo's original point in this post which is to wish
political friend and foe alike a Happy Thanksgiving. It's been another enjoyable year crossing swords with people on RGCP. Hope that as 2003 winds down that people are in good health and are able to share thanks for the positive things they do have in their lives. Best Regards, Bruce |

Dear Aviv,
Heil Dubya! I have not wished to enter into public -- or private -- battles with you, Aviv, because I do not blame you for the land of your birth. However, you have baited me, both publicly and privately over that land of your birth, so, at last I must respond. I see that the "history" taught in Zionist Occupied Palestined is similar to the "history" taught in the United States: pure myth, aimed at glorifying the current rulers. When you condemned Edward Said out of hand, at the time of his death, I'm sure you were unaware that one of his dearest friends -- who organized and conducted a concert in his honor shortly after Dr. Said's death -- was "Israeli" Daniel Barenboim. Read some of Dr. Said's work and you MIGHT get a glimpse of why Barenboim revered him so greatly. Or are you afraid to read tghe work of Dr. Said, because you might learn parallel between the genocidal policies against the people of Palestine implemented by the founders and perpetuators of your own state and the genocidal policies against the indigenous North Americans implemented by the founders and perpetuators of the U. S. A. [There's even more to the parallel, however. Your state couldn't have been born, if it had not been for the U. S. A., while the U. S. A. could not have been born, if it had not been for the rest of Europe. Both states stole the lands of other (indigenous) peoples ONLY because they had the backing of European rulers as vile as (viler than?) the actual murderers, rapists and pillagers who performed the dirty work.] Now, here's a history lesson for you, concerning "Thanksgiving": From Tiokasin Ghost Horse Thanksgiving: A Day Of Infamy Millions of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. They gather to feast and most are unaware of the true history of the holiday. America's schools have taught that the coming of the Pilgrims made everyone happy. In reality, it was the beginning of the longest war in the U.S. -- the extermination of the indigenous peoples. Thanksgiving Day was first proclaimed by the governor of the Massachuesetts Bay Colony in 1637 to commemorate the massacre of 700 men, women and children who were celebrating their annual Green Corn Dance in their own house. Gathered at this place, they were attacked by mercenaries, English and Dutch. The Pequots were ordered from the building and as they came forth they were killed with guns, swords, cannons and torches. The rest were burned alive in the building. The very next day, the governor proclaimed a holiday and feast to "give thanks" for the massacre. For the next 100 years, a governor would ordain a day to honor a bloody victory, thanking God the "battle" had been won. "Where White Men Fear To Tread", R.Means 1995 "Facing West: The Metaphysics of Indian Hating and Empire Building", R.Drinnon 1990 (Is it not ironic that the Mashantucket Pequot Nation sponsors the Foxwoods Open every year? Or weren't you aware of the sponsors of that tournament?) Aren't you residing on Indian land yourself? Aren't you perpetuating the crimes of your forefathers by doing so? Jerome,
Jerome Bibuld wrote: Dear Aviv, Heil Dubya! I have not wished to enter into public -- or private -- battles with you, Aviv, because I do not blame you for the land of your birth. I see that the "history" taught in Zionist Occupied Palestined is similar to the "history" taught in the United States: pure myth, aimed at glorifying the current rulers. What does that have to do with what I asked you? You always seem unpleased to the extreme with your country's past and present, its people, laws and leaders. I thought maybe to make a point you'd move to Cuba, for example. Away from any stolen Indian land and all the injustices you so hate here. I am not sure what you meant by "Zionist occupied Palestine". If you meant the occupied territories I will remind you that Arafat REFUSED an offer to getting back 95%(!) of the land made by Barak at Camp David. Once a terrorist always a terrorist who couldn't and wouldn't ever get used to his status change to being the president of his people. Nowadays, even in the Arab world leaders know and agree he is the problem - case in point is Mubarak, the Egyptian president who in private talks addresses Arafat in expletives. It is only the oriental honor nonsense and the black or white traditional pride that doesn't let them speak openly on ousting him. When you condemned Edward Said out of hand, at the time of his death, I'm sure you were unaware that one of his dearest friends -- who organized and conducted a concert in his honor shortly after Dr. Said's death -- was "Israeli" Daniel Barenboim. He did not recognize the right of Israel to exist but as a country for both Jews and Palestinians on its entire land. With all his education and fame he only saw one side of the conflict and perpetuated it unfairly thus hindering chances for peace. I am rolling my eyes to your saying that because he 'had an Israeli friend' in Daniel Barenboim I should have revered him. Uri Avneri, the Ex Knesset member and known leftist, visited Arafat for solidarity recently. Am I now to legitimize Arafat because of it? Now, please get your history straight: Jews lived in Israel well before it was an independent state. My grandfather was born there under the Ottoman rule, for example. Over the years under Ottoman and later British rule too, large migrations of Jews occurred. They often settled in barren land, what land did they steal?! In 1948 Israel was declared a state, after a UN vote and recognized as a Jewish state, within days it was attacked by the armies of its arab neighbors. It took more than the war of independence for the arab world to understand Israel is here to stay. Live with it too. I am also for a separate, Palestinian state in the now occupied territories, hopefully soon enough Arafat will meet his maker and there will be someone mandated by the Palestinian people to reach some agreements. Similarly no longer fraternally, Aviv Now, here's a history lesson for you, concerning "Thanksgiving": From Tiokasin Ghost Horse Thanksgiving: A Day Of Infamy Millions of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.
