Interview with Susan Polgar Interesting stuff! How did you get her to agree to this interview? Did you have to pay her money? |

Thanks, Louis, yes, you are right, that's indeed the way the interview with
Susan Polgar should be read. Next time I'll be more careful and take better attention. By the way I'm surprised by Susan's very cautious answer, "It may or may not be", on Fischer's conspiracy theory. Fischer is convinced all of the matches between the top players are arranged. He believes they construct superior games with the help of computers ("it's ten thousand times more easier now!") and then act as if they really play these games. This whole charade is performed to make him look weak and not the rightful owner of the World Chess Champion title. I'd expect Susan to take more clearly distance from such nonsense. Peter van der Hoog "Louis Blair" wrote in message om... Goran Tomic wrote (2003-12-25 03:27:26 PST): Interview with Susan Polgar Dear Susan, I would like to make a short interview ... Goran Tomic: ... What's your opinion about Bobby Fischer? Why didn't Fischer stay in Budapest? Bobby Fischer said that some of the top WCC matches in man competition were prearranged move by move. What do you think about it? Susan Polgar: Bobby is one of the greatest chess players of all time. He is ranked up there with Kasparov and Capablanca. I am not sure why he left Budapest. It may or may not be. I do not have any first hand knowledge of that. Unless someone can offer concrete evidence, I will leave it as a rumor. Peter van der Hoog wrote (2003-12-27 03:30:19 PST): What do think of one of Susan Polgar's answers: "Unless someone can offer concrete evidence, I will leave it as a rumor." How much evidence does she need? On Fischer's own website he writes: "In January 2000 I left Budapest for Japan where I have spent most of my time for the past 3 years". The fact that Fischer left Budapest isn't controversial at all and I'm sure the chess community in Budapest is aware Fischer left the country. Is she playing dumb? _ I think that what we have here is a simple confusion that resulted from Susan Polgar responding to a paragraph with more than one question. Perhaps what was intended was something like this: Goran Tomic: What's your opinion about Bobby Fischer? Susan Polgar: Bobby is one of the greatest chess players of all time. He is ranked up there with Kasparov and Capablanca. Goran Tomic: Why didn't Fischer stay in Budapest? Susan Polgar: I am not sure why he left Budapest. Fischer may be right about "chess theater" occuring in GM play, but all he'd have to do is enter the US Championship and win his way up to the title, if he were truly better. This practice wouldn't "stop" him at all. |

It's exactly this kind of amoral spinelessness that keeps anyone from taking
organized chess seriously. That, and the ever-increasing suspicion that many of the better players are mentally unbalanced. Then we take a look at FIDE, and we see everything for what it is: a loony bin. "David Richerby" wrote in message ...
