Bruce Draney is wrong about some things but right about others. He is
clearly wrong when he implies that Goichberg, Schultz and Camaratta
are allies. Camaratta is clearly opposed to Schultz. Schultz is in
charge of the federation.

Schultz needs Beatriz to keep his majority in tact. He will try to
convince her not to resign even if she is not physically fit. He also
needs Hanke. This explains why Don Schultz wrote on his website;
"Hanke is not a kook or a nut. He is smart, loves chess and is a
valuable Board member. He is a close confidant of the president and a
Board member for whom I have high respect."

Of course, everybody including Schultz who knows Hanke knows that he
really is a kook and a nut as well as being an ignorant jackass who
claims to know everything about everything, but in reality knows
nothing about nothing. However, Don Schultz knows that he must keep
saying nice things about Tim Hanke if he wants to keep his majority in
tact.

This is a big weekend for the future of chess. Almost anything could
happen or the love affair could continue.

Good post Sam.

I don't think the USCF will ever move to Crossville

Good news.

Bruce, have you ever considered that if you had spent as much time working
on advance promotion of the tournaments you ran as you spend ranting on
RGCP, you might have had better attendance at those events?

If it were up to me every NFL game would be played at 1 pm on Sunday, USCF
would move back to Newburgh, and every state west of the Mississippi would
be given back to Cochise.

Does that mean the USCF is not moving to Crossville?

This indeed is the question. My answer is that it depends upon who is
in charge of the decision making? With Goichberg as ED and Don Schultz,
Frank Brady and Frank Camaratta on the Board as a majority, the
Crossville move seems much less likely than it did when Niro was in
charge and McCrary was running the show.

Goichberg, et. al, are fierce traditionalists who believe USCF belongs
in New York and not it the backwoods of Tennessee. I'm not sure when
the lease on the publications building expires, but it is relatively
pointless to move before that lease expires. I thought it wasn't until
sometime in 2005. Stan Booz knows.

Remember that Don Schultz originally claimed that USCF was moving to
his state, and he was not that thrilled with the Crossville move. I
believe Don, Bill and Frank are calling most of the shots.

Best Regards,

Bruce

That sounds like Pat Paulsen's solution: Send the Europeans back to Europe,
the Africans back to Africa, turn the country into a giant National
Park and start over again.

You may want to stipulate that all baseball games must be played in the day,
without lights, and call for the banishment of the designated hitter rule.

If it were up to the West, they'd probaably leave. Would Washington send a
Union Army to burn down San Francisco?

OK, Sam,.. the big weekend is over. What happened at Boca Raton that would
be of interest to us?

This is a good question. Is Beatriz now out of the loop as well due to

My understanding is that Beatriz is at this weekend's meeting, though she
may be returning to Chile afterwards.

Well Mike, I won't engage in a flame war with you, but you always have
the option of not reading my posts if you think they're meaningless
rants.

You post here quite a bit too Mike, and I don't seem to recollect
anything that either of us did or didn't do having a huge impact one way
or another on the sorry continuing state of USCF or adult chess in this
country.

I am glad that Beatriz is back, but I am afraid her health will prevent
her from serving to the best of her ability. I hope I'm wrong. Do you
disagree with my assertions that Don Schultz, Frank Camaratta and Frank
Brady are now calling the shots and that they wish to keep Bill on as
permanent ED?

Best Regards,

Bruce

Hell, Haas, you live in Florida and you're asking if Sam who lives in
Brooklyn, went to a meeting in Boca Raton?

First, did Sam even go to Boca Raton? If so did he bring his daughter
with him? If so did he change her diaper this time? If so, did this
send the entire crowd attending the meeting running for the bathrooms
with their noses plugged?

These are the critical questions that need answering.

Best Regards,

Bruce

No, but Buchanon would send one to flush out the Mormons, and almost did.

Were it not for the unofficial efforts of Thomas L Kane (who made the trip
round the tip of S. America to San Fran) and a few other "agents" dispatched
by James Buchanan (15th Potus), the open rebellion would have led to a war
against the Mormons and would have probably been known today as the 1st
American Civil War.

As far as the West is concerned, when it comes to Chess, let us do a reverse
anti-Goldberg (c. 1964) ad campaign. We'll saw off New Whimsy, and let it
float out to sea, where it will forevermore be named the Good Ship
Goichypop.
