Default Bernard Hill, Titanic Chess Master ??

I just replayed the video of the 1997 film Titanic and I noticed that
the actor who played Captain Smith is Bernard Hill.

http://imdb.com/name/nm0384060/

However, Bernard Hill is also the name of a vetern chess master.

http://www.64.com/uscf/ratings/10103908

The age is about the same. Does anybody know if this is the same
person?

Seirawan.

Bernard Hill the chessplayer appears to be an employee for a company
called Braeburn software in Scotland, making it rather unlikely he
also is an actor as well. Plus his picture looks different.

Thank you for finding this but I disagree.

I saw an interview of the Bernard Hill who plays Captain Smith in the
video "The Titanic Premier" and I believe from the picture you cite
that the Bernard Hill who is the software developer in the same man as
the Bernard Hill who played Captain Smith.

However, I think he is a different man from the Bernard Hill who is a
chess master, because the Bernard Hill who is a chess master appears
to be a resident of New York State.

hi bernard hill is the king dude in lord of the rings but he isnt the
guy on the uscf website - he's english and would have a 'grade' and be
on the BCF website. why do we english have to have the grading system
? i would prefer somthing consistent with the elo type affair,
cheers

He can't be the same person. The Bernie Hill I knew, the veteran
chessplayer, was a friend of Abe Turner's, played at times at the Manhattan
CC, and certainly wasn't born in 1944, the year the actor was.

Here's another picture of Bernard Hill the actor -
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0384060/ - In his biography imdb mentions
that he a skilled horse back rider and has a purple belt in Karate,
nothing about chess.

Bernard Hill is a well known actor in the UK. He has had many parts in BBC
plays where he once played an unemployed person with his saying "got a job".
Next part was he was the Captain of Titanic!

All the best

Erm not "got a job" but "Gizzajob" - one of the first media stereotypings of
Liverpool people as jobless drop-outs - ironically by a Scouser in Alan
Bleasdale and "Boys from the Black Stuff"

Dave,

Your dead right. I wrote it as for people unfamiliar with the saying. He
also appeared in a play about a certain group which are well known in
Belfast, Glasgow and Liverpool. You know, the future bright the future
is --------,

All the best
