I call them conditions. He's not holding anyone up. "Miriling" wrote It seems like former USCF president Bob Smith of Florida is making demands, threats or whatever you want to call it |

Subject: Ex-USCF president playing "hardball"
On 8 August 2004 (ASCACHESS) asked Larry (parrthenon) in Message-id: I have great respect for the work she has done with scholastics nor the quality of her work while she was employed in the Office. Larry, Would you like to comment on the syntax of this sentence? Perhaps you can find a meaning? Was English a second language for Bob Smith? Richard Peterson Smith made a Fingerfehler - or maybe it was a Denkfehler - when he typed "nor" in the statement above. I'm sure he meant to write "and." George Mirijanian |

"Sam Sloan" wrote in message om... OK. Now you are talking about something a bit different, making the USCF as subsidiary of AF4C or making the AF4C a subsiriary of the USCF. However, that is not the deal they are discussing, or perhaps it is. Most mergers are really takeovers. A true pooling of interests among unrelated parties is rare. The main point is that they are asking us to vote SIX DAYS FROM TODAY on whether or not to merge, but they refuse to give us any information at all on what form this merger will take. We are being asked to approve the merger now and then to leave it up to the EB "to work out the details". If this goes through, next year at this time the USCF as we know it will have ceased to exist. I give this motion less of a chance then the proverbial snowball in Hades. |

I'd say the ex-president is playing with softballs, not hardballs.
You're doing a good job, Beatriz, so work with your Executive Board and make your own decisions. Ex-presidents should do like General MacArthur and just "fade away". Rich in Phoenix "ChessforLife" wrote in message ... In reference to the e-mail below, my response is as follows: I am looking forward to continue serving the federation. For the first time since 1996, the USCF made a profit, which is not an insignificant amount ($283,000) all things considered. At the same time, we have a united Executive Board with two wonderful new additions for this year (Elizabeth Shaughnessy and Randy Bauer). Best Regards to all, Beatriz Marinello USCF President On 08 Aug 2004 04:50:54 GMT, (Miriling) wrote: It seems like former USCF president Bob Smith of Florida is making demands, threats or whatever you want to call it on the current USCF Executive Board. Smith, who resigned his presidency four years ago this month at a EB meeting in Saint Paul, Minn., has informed another former USCF president, who also resigned ignominiously from the Executive Board, that he won't be co-operating with the current board. As he stated in an e-mail reply to his fellow ex-prez: "I WILL NOT ATTEND the US Open in Florida unless Beatriz Marinello immediately resigns, along with those on the Board who have supported her refusal to have any dialogue with Eric [sic]" remainder cut |

"...I have no intentions to renew my USCF membership when it lapses. I'd
rather save the money and use it to play on ICC and buy my equipment from Wholesale Chess.." (pawnstormca) =========== That's what I did recently... rejoin ICC. I weighed ICC vs USCF and chose the one from which I can get the most benefit.. the most psychic income. ICC won easily. There are no USCF rated OTB tournaments locally or nearby... so why would I join USCF? Maybe someday, but not today. Old Haasie |
