I feel that the proposed merger is legally impossible because the USCF is a 501(c)(4) corporation with more than 90,000 dues paying members whereas the American Foundation for Chess is a small private group with 501(c)(3) status. Ever hear of the US Chess Trust? John Fernandez |

... It seems like former USCF president Bob Smith of Florida is making demands, threats or whatever you want to call it on the current USCF Executive Board. Smith, who resigned his presidency four years ago this month at a EB meeting in Saint Paul, Minn., has informed another former USCF president, who also resigned ignominiously from the Executive Board, that he won't be co-operating with the current board. As he stated in an e-mail reply to his fellow ex-prez: "I WILL NOT ATTEND the US Open in Florida unless Beatriz Marinello immediately resigns, along with those on the Board who have supported her refusal to have any dialogue with Eric [sic]" Seems like the perfect time to reprint this from 2002: Looks like it's time for the annual Bob Smith MELTDOWN. This seems to occur between February and July. Then the Schulz tells him to behave himself for the delegates meeting, and he's fine for the next several months again. 3 years ago it was Richard Peterson. 2 years ago it was Richard Peterson AND the US Championship 1 year ago it was the "secret" Games Parlor deal where Bob had met with the GP CEO. This year it's the Redman and the Blacks: ********* Hi John and fellow Board members, After a thorough analysis of the entire situation, I think it is in the best interest of chess that I withdraw from my candidacy for FIDE Zonal President. If nominated, I would be a target for the Redman, Doyle, Barry, Dubeck gang on the Delegates' floor. These losers want to reduce the power of the Executive Board since they don't hold a single seat and will not likely be able to elect one of their own for several years. They will attempt to punish me for my vigorous and successful efforts to defeat their candidates in the last election. I think they would lose before the Delegates, but they might damage USCF in the attempt. They might possibly hurt our program of rebuilding after the disastrous Redman reign. I am dedicated to the new efforts to restore the books and equipment business which Redman sought to destroy. I support the amazing success of Frank Niro. He is rebuilding our inventory and financial integrity, as well as restoring our reputation and the confidence of our members. I have been willing to serve as Zonal President and believe my qualifications are sound. However, I not willing to risk our program and the great progress we have made in the interest of any personal ambition. I will find other ways to support chess and to bring new members from the vast number of casual chess players in our country and around the world. I will work in USCF and in FIDE to do all I can to bring new interest to our Royal Game. I will be retiring soon and will have the time and the energy to work hard on organizing tournaments and promoting scholastic chess. Our game presents so many advantages to the learning process and these kids indeed represent the future of all chess. All best wishes, Bob Smith USCF Executive Board ********* Ah, Bobchess, that friendly, kindly chess volunteer -- who will rip your heart out when you aren't looking. Just where DID you get your law degree, Bobchess? Wonder how Richard Peterson feels about Bobchess getting into scholastic chess. Sound's like he's trying to put you outa bizness Rickie. Guess Bobchess must like Warren. He left her name off the list. *** This year, Bob goes after Beatriz. Who will it be next? -- Der Wiesel |

Wonder how Richard Peterson feels about Bobchess getting into scholastic chess. Sound's like he's trying to put you outa bizness Rickie. There is something wrong with Bob. It isn't a joke. It isn't funny. It is dead serious. Bob needs professional help. Richard Peterson |
