I.M. Sloan's Greatest Games by Jürgen R.
There was a claim that it isn't possible to tell, simply by looking at a game or two, whether it is Patzer Sloan playing or a Grand Master Sloan. Let us take as a first example game 1 of the famous match between I.M. (Ismael Mohammed) Sloan and the strong mid-western master Brock: 1. g4 d5 2. Bg2 Bxg4 3. c4 c6 4. cxd5 cxd5 5. Qb3 Nf6 6. Nc3 e6 7. Qxb7 Nbd7 8. Nb5 Rc8 9. Nxa7 Rb8 10. Qc6 Qa5

Hanon Russell Letter to Bill Goichberg by samsloan
Bill: It has come to my attention that there is a proposal that would reduce the number of copies of Chess Life distributed to the membership. Although I appreciate the board's desire to cut expenses in these trying economic times, this idea is a bad one for several reasons. Without the magazine arriving each month, any stimulus for members to become more active, participate in chess events,...

Goichberg Plans to Eliminate Membership Cards by samsloan
Apparently few in the outside world realize that one of the features in Bill Goichberg's "new plan" is that, in additional to making Chess Life optional, the USCF will no longer mail membership cards to the members. This means that the members will receive absolutely nothing at all in return of paying their dues. Here is what Goicherg's new plan states:

Methods of Producing Japanese Shogi Equipment by samsloan
Kiseido in Japan has come out with a new line of high quality shogi equipment. Here is an article on how it is made and how to tell the difference between the high quality boards and the cheap stuff: http://www.kiseido.com/shogi/shogi_equipment.htm Never fear: For only $4,200 now you can buy an inexpensive but serviceable shogi set.

Proof that Goichberg Knew All Along that Paul Truong Was The Fake SamSloan by samsloan
It was a frequent occurrence that when I would post something on the USCF Issues Forum, the Fake Sam Sloan would make some minor changes in the wording and post almost the same thing over on rec.games.chess.politics Often this would happen within ten or fifteen minutes of my initial posting, which proved that the Fake Sam Sloan was logged into the USCF Issues Forum almost all the time. This...

Disaster Coming: Here is the new dues structure as proposed in amotion by Bill Goichberg. by samsloan
Disaster Coming: Here is the new dues structure as proposed in a motion by Bill Goichberg. Please read this carefully. Please note that Regular Members NO LONGER RECEIVE CHESS LIFE MAGAZINE. LIFE MEMBERS NO LONGER RECEIVE CHESS LIFE UNLESS THEY SPECIFICALLY REQUEST IT. Also, NO MORE LIFE MEMBERSHIPS WILL BE SOLD. The USCF, as we know it, will not survive these changes:

FSS... who is it really? by Rob
Here is something for Mr. Sloan to consider: Who reported to have acted as a liaison for Fisher? Who reported to have legal documents stating they had Fischer's power of attorney? Who posted the following response to my question as to what was being announced about Fischer on...

Goichberg Objects to An Alternate Proposal by Don Schultz by samsloan
The problem is that you are complaining about a dues structure that you, Bill Goichberg, created. Every year you have come to the delegates meeting with a proposal for a new dues structure, and in general the delegates have approved your proposals. Even when the delegates have not approved your proposals, you have pushed them through the board as "promotions". Now, you are saying that your dues...

Freysteinn Thorbergsson book on the 1972 Fischer-Spassky Match Freysteinn Thorbergsson of Iceland self-published a book on the Fischer-Spassky Match. Basically what the book said was that the entire match was the idea of Freysteinn Thorbergsson. Freysteinn Thorbergsson convinced the Icelanders to hold the match, Freysteinn Thorbergsson came to America to convince Bobby to play,...

The Krush Letter by Chess One[_2_]
Mentioned several times in the SusanPolgar blog over the past two weeks, and also in the Alekhine's Parrot column at Chessville, the very strange circumstances of the last game of the Women's Championship continues to cause substantial waves. This week Irina Krush wrote a long open letter about the apparent pressing of the clock before the opponent's move was complete. There is a 30-second...

Filling Delegate Seats At the Annual Meeting--Illegal? by Brian Lafferty
Probably. The by laws of the USCF provide for an Order list of delegate names to be provided to Crossville prior to the annual meeting. The order of that list goes by votes received from the state membership in electing their delegates and alternate delegates. This complies with the IL not for profit statute. (805 ILCS 105/108.10) (from Ch. 32, par. 108.10) Sec. 108.10. Number,...

Game with Rybka Drawn. !!! by Sanny
Today I tried a new game between Normal Level (100 seconds/move) & Rybka (5 seconds / move) And the Game was Drawn by Repetitive moves. Yesterday I said GetClub is 20 times weaker than Rybka, Since Normal Level which thinks 16 times more than Rybka at 5 seconds / move plays as good as Rybka. I showed a game where the game was nearly equal but later Rybka was able to break the defence and win in...

Most interesting game by Zebediah. by Sanny
Zebediah played one of the most interesting game against Advance Level. I was thinking now Zebediah will get real competition. But Zebediah played such interesting moves and win that everyone will be surprised to see. Zebediah first sacrificed its Rook for a pawn for no reasion. Then after a few moves he Sacrificed His Bishop for a Pawn.

Do you have an FIDE rating? Dr. Robert Howard of the University of New South Wales in Australia is carrying out a study of chess skill in internationally rated players. Co-Sponsors Needed for my ADMS by samsloan
I have just submitted two ADMs for consideration by the USCF Delegates Meeting in Dallas. There can be little doubt that the powers-that-be will try to knock out my two ADMs so that they not be considered by the delegates. Therefore, I am asking the members to show support for these two ADMs by sending letters to the office co-sponsoring these ADMs. These letters of co-sponsorship must be sent...
