Ernie Schlich brings on Four Controversies
Ernie Schlich is a quiet sort of guy. Always around but rarely says
anything. He does his job and minds his business. Never any problem
with good ole' Ernie.
That was until last week when Ernie Schlich surprised everybody by
announcing that he was running for USCF Executive Board. Almost
immediately, four controversies broke out. I have not reported...

Jim Eade comes out in favor of Sam Sloan
Jim Eade, who retired years ago from organized chess to enjoy a life
of leisure as outlined in a previous thread, has returned the
compliment Sloan paid him recently by expressing concern and dismay at
the current development, which is that 3 out 5 of the current
candidates for the USCF Executive Board are present or former USCF

I wish to become the Libertarian Party Candidate for Governor of New York State by

Nuts were allowed to speak. Don Silberger and Sam

There, that's a more accurate description.

Chessplayers are LEGALLY using computers in tournaments! by
Ray Gordon
You wouldn't believe the advantage this gives those players who have figured
out how to do this, LEGALLY.
I'm not talking about freestyle or online tournaments either, but regular,
OTB matches under the auspices of FIDE or USCF.
You only think you're playing a chessplayer, but these days you just might
find yourself paired against...THE BORG!
Pay attention, folks: this is PERFECTLY LEGAL and...

uh, Phil? by

I know you don't want to answer the question. But I am talking about a
simple STANDARD, and standards are dear to your heart:
Zero tolerance for advocates of, or apologists for, child molestation.
Here's a standard for you, Innes: I won't tolerate apologists (such
as Sam Sloan) for a person (let us say Jefferson Poland) who, having
been found guilty by the State of California of performing...

Ernie Schlich brings on Four Controversies, part 2 by
Sam Sloan
Controversy Number Three
The article entitled "Ernest Schlich, April USCF Volunteer of the
Month" says that Ernie came back to the USCF and did emergency work in
the office because after the move to Crossville which entailed firing
almost all the USCF staff in New Windsor and hiring new people in
Crossville, the new staff did not know how to prepare FIDE rating
reports and title applications....

Ernie Schlich brings on Four Controversies, part 3 by

Controversy Number Four
Ernie Schlich collected the signatures on Company Time. Ernie Schlich
collected the signatures while on the USCFs time-clock.
Ernie collected the signatures while he was working as director of the
National Junior High School Championship in Louisville, Kentucky,
which was held April 7-9, 2006. Ernie Schlich was employed by the USCF
to be a director of that tournament....

Jacob Aagaard -- too big for his britches? by
Ange1o DePa1ma
As long as we're turning this forum into the de facto rec.games.chess.books,
I'd like to mention a very annoying book I purchased a couple of years ago.
Jacob Aagaard's "Kalashnikov Sicilian" (Everyman) purposely omits a huge
number of critical lines in this opening, namely those arising after: 1.e4
c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cd 4.Nxd4 e5 5.Nb5 d6 6.Nc3 a6 7.Na3 b5 8.Nd5. This is a
line I face about half...

24.04.2006 After the war, until around 1970, he was the strongest German
chess grandmaster. But Wolfgang Unzicker, seven times German champion, never
made chess his profession, practising law instead. He played in twelve
Olympiads and represented his country on the national team 400 times.
Unzicker died of heart failure during a holiday in...

Minimum number of players by
Zero
Hi
Is there a chart that I can get which tells me the number of minimum
players required in a tournament that would prevent any pairing
conflicts. If I am running a 4 round tournament, how many players do i
need at least to stop any possible pairing conflicts in rounds 3 & 4 ?
thanks
