PeteJohnsonNews
Which person was Yasser Seirawan on FIDE referring to when he mentioned a
"grandmaster no one had ever seen compete" in his editorial seen on the site
www.chesstoday.net ?

WHERE WERE WE?
The memoir that I have been working on is with
the publisher and it will be appearing in March in
Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and London, with a
later date after translation for China.
So there is now some time.
Where were we?

About the $49 dues.... by
RSHaas@aol.com
When should we expect to see the USCF dues drop from $49 to a much
lower figure? Bill Goichberg himself said not all that long ago that
$49 is too high even though he once championed the increase to $49 from
a time before.
$49 has killed organized adult chess in many places throughout the
country. Down my way only se/Florida and Orlando seem capabable of
pulling off adult tournaments. The next...

USCF dues *could* be abolished...if they wanted to by
Ray Gordon
Their dues structure is outdated.
USCF should use its existing mailing list to build a revenue-stream that
generates x amount of dollars per member through chess-related commerce.
If they don't do it, ICC probably will just take over OTB chess, since you
actually get something for your money.

THE issue is ANTI-CHEATING by
Ray Gordon
USCF has GOT to take the lead on this. I don't care if it costs more to
enter a tournament; I would GLADLY pay it if we can ensure that no one
CHEATS.
The rules have to be simple:
1. NO leaving the board except for a bathroom break, which must be taken on
the opponent's move, and while the player's clock continues to tick (i.e.,
immediately after his move). Cut the time controls to g/30 or...

Future World Chess Champion Jennifer Shahade by
Ray Gordon
She's what, 22? 24?
She's rated what, 2400?
USCF is paying her how much to write about chess?
She has ALL DAY AND NIGHT TO TRAIN.
During her breaks from training, she can write articles and run the USCF's
e-zine website.

Latest Review of Shahade book by
Spamscone@yahoo.com
Half a Bitch is Better Than None:
http://correspondencechess.com/campbell/articles/a060214.htm
"Much of the press controversy provoked by the title and cover is
silly, and in at least one case, a ridiculous interview with Ms.
Shahade at the Chessville website, an assault against grammar: 'What do
you think of mostly men who say that they would object to the book
becoming part of a high school...

Goichberg, Schultz, Channing should resign and Marinello should be Pres again by
Ray Gordon
Schultz, Channing and Goichberg gave Shahade and Hoffman big money
under the table as political payoff. They are corrupt. They should all
resign and put Marinello back as President immediately.
Chess **** Shahade and Hoffman have no experience in the field where
they were given positions and big money. When will this corruption end?
Marinello was the best President and she would cut their balls...

excellent new serious website by
Tim_Gluckman
An ad in 'NIC' drew my attention to www.chesschronicle.org
"It contains theoretical analysis, opening surveys, chess novelties,
and well-annotated games, as well as instructive theoretical material
from Grandmasters and International Masters". (quote from the site)
It's one to subscribe to and would cost 45$ for 24 issues which is
about 24 cups of coffee/ 30 copies of a newspaper (which one?) /...

Why is poker getting so much attention and not chess? by
Alberich
Explain this to me...poker matches are NEVER shown live...games are
EDITED for maximum effect to show only the "exciting" hands played. Now
games of poker can last for hours on end...yet with editing...these
games can be shortened down for managable bit sized one hour "events"
shown on cable.
Now turn to chess. Here's a game that can ALSO last for hours and hours.
But I don't see the kind of...

Bobby Fischer by
Todd
Does anyone know the story behind why Bobby Fischer's book "My 60 most
memorable games" is out of print. I checked Amazon and if you have a copy
you could probably get $60 for it. I assume this has to do with legal
problems or his antisemitic remarks but does anyone have the actual facts?

Why Greg Shahade Resigned? by
Sam Sloan
It not has become apparent why Greg Shahade abruptly resigned from the
USCF Executive Board. The answer can be found in Section 2 (a) of the
"Standards of Conduct" at
http://www.uschess.org/org/govern/conduct.html which states:
"(a) Except where noted below, no Executive Board member or a member
of his immediate family may receive financial compensation from the
USCF for any reason, except for...

Don Schultz and the Shahades embezzeled USCF money by
Ray Gordon
OK...........Don Schultz has very slowly told us more and more of the
story.
When he said "every member of the board wanted Jennifer" does that
include him?
He acted as if he knew nothing about all this just a few days ago?
So now let's give us one more piece of the puzzle...............

10th anniversary of Deep Blue-Kasparov, 1-0 by
Paul Rubin
The first time a computer beat a reigning world champion under
tournament conditions was 10 years ago today, per Wikipedia
anniversaries list. This was the first game of the first DB-Kasparov
match and Kasparov was shocked by this loss, but he came back to win
the match with a 4-2 score. He lost the subsequent and more famous
match a year...
