for Larry Parr's review by
politikalhack@gmail.com
Originally posted to rgcp in August 2003; I don't pretend to know what
legislation was in effect at the time of Sloan's narrative, but would
suggest that it is reasonable to assume that then-current law would not
have been wildly inconsistent. Does Parr wish to concede that point,
or should I contact the Thai...

Top-posting by
Angelo DePalma
Sorry this post is not about Larry Parr's toenails, Sam Sloan's inability to
beat an 1800 player with the Damiano, or Bill Goichberg's single-handed
destruction of the American way of life.
It's about something of far greater importance -- my integrity as a usenet
poster.
I've recently been fileted and flambayed (forgive the intentional
misspelling) on a bridge newsgroup for "top-posting." I've...

My Bill Brock Wikipedia page by
Sam Sloan
Lately, in case you have not noticed, Bill Brock has been posting
boigraphies of me on Wikipedia. At first, he asked that my biography
be deleted, claiming that I had written the biography myself. This was
demonstrated not to be true. My Wikipedia biography was written by two
persons who have never met me and who know of me for reasons unrelated
to chess and who do not know each other either. I...

Misleading Book Titles. by
Skeptic
I was browsing chess books in a store the other day, and noted two extremely
misleading chess titles. By "misleading" I do not mean "lousy book", a book
that fails to do what it intends to--I mean a book where there is no
connection between the book and the title.
The first was Eric Schiller's "Complete Defense to King Pawn Opening", by
Eric Schiller, described on the cover as "the world's...

I have a computer background but how to sort entries with multiple
lines, variable number of lines per entry and variable lenght of lines
is a mystery.
Who knows the nifty trick? Email to

A Blatant Lie by Parr by

In the thread "Misleading Book Tiles," Larry Parr wrote:
The book reviews at CensoredCafe re an Eric Schiller or a Ray

I am not familiar with the web-site "CensoredCafe," but having

guess that I am in a better position than Mr. Parr to know what goes on
in that area. In my experience, his...

THE OTHER SHOE DROPS
Thanks go to Wayne Praeder for bringing up correspondence with
the Executive Board re a code of conduct or ethics or conflicts of
interest among Board members.
For myself, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Which is to
say, rules for members of the USCF, too.

CHEATING is the NUMBER ONE chess issue by
Ray Gordon
The chess establishment better get its act together to stop cheaters at
tournaments.
The same rules which are used for the SATs and other exams (like the Bar
Exam) need to be in place for chess.
That means no cellphones, no spectators, no unsupervised bathroom breaks,
etc.
The "honor system" simply no longer works.

Wikipedia page about George Koltanowski by
Sam Sloan
I have created a Wikipedia page about George Koltanowski.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Koltanowski
A curious fact I have just discovered is that he is not listed in the
Social Security Death Index.
http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
The closest match is a George Colton who died in San Francisco with
exactly the same dates of birth and death.

Requests to the White Collection in Cleveland by
Sam Sloan
There are some old chess publications I would like to obtain. I always
kept everything about chess, but in 1994 my brother had everything in
my mother's house in Lynchburg, Virginia thrown in a garbage. Thus, I
lost most of my old chess magazines and game scores. I did salvage a
few items, such as the score of my game against Claude Bloodgood which
I have just posted.
If anybody goes to the...

Wikipedia controversy about John W. Collins by
Sam Sloan
Yesterday, I happened to notice that the Wikipedia biography of John
W. Collins and twice been deleted. This is unusual. It had been my
understanding that once a Wikipedia biography is posted, it stays up
forever, unless the person is entirely non-noteworthy.
So, I found a new skimpy biography that had been posted after previous
deletes. I expanded it by finding his birth date which had not...

Wikipedia Controversy about Eric Schiller by

I just happened to notice some extremely negative remarks on Wikipedia

known to attack Schiller among others.
So, I revised the Eric Schiller page, taking out all the negative
stuff. Within minutes, this same person but them all back in. Then,
