Gunsberg
Playing in what looks to be his first USCF rated event, Roger
Rojas-Suarez was =1st, and declared to be Co-Champion in the Under Age
21 (Open?) Section. Interestingly, the Under Age 15 section looked to
be about as strong...

2005 US Cadet Ch. Crosstable by
Gunsberg
The event was held as a Double Round Robin Quadrangular. That might
be suitable for a weeknight Action Swiss, but it seems obvious that had
there been better promotion, and had the dates of the event not
conflicted with the School years of many of the potentially eligible
players, they would have been able to garner more than 4 Entries

U.S. Junior and Cadet Championships by
halterrie@worldnet.att.net
Mr. Haas takes the group to task for the lack of new controversies
for him to salivate over. How about this: once again this year, as has
been the case several times in recent years, the U.S. Junior and Cadet
Championships were held as "stealth" events.
There was no web coverage of these tournaments that I have been able
to find. No games have been published. Coverage was announced for ICC
but...

Grudge match: Sloan vs. Kingston or Sloan vs. Bauer. by
Equinorm@AOL.com
Mr. Sloan:
I never played anyone with a 2300 elo rating in my life who wasn't
a tough player, and I've played dozens of them. It doesn't really
matter how you get the rating, you have to play at a certain level to
get it. An argument could be made that Mr. Bauer was probably
underrated, because there are not so many rating points floating around
in the midwest as on the two coasts.
I would...

Dear Chess Friends-
The team of "Chess Chronicle" , (an online chess magazine) having an honor
to present a chess magazine that will fulfill the appetite of your chess
hunger.
Since long time we were thinking to start this project and after so many
hurdles we finally succeed. The first issue was suppose to be out on the
22nd June but due to some technical problems we couldn't able to do that...

Expanding the USCF Tournament Archives by
Sam Sloan
Expanding the USCF Tournament Archives
This is one of my pet projects which I hope to expand on if I am
elected.
In the last week, I have been having a heated argument with Randy
Bauer about our relative strengths. The problem is that he played most
of his chess in the 1980s and I played most of my chess in the 1960s.
Not only can we not compare with each other but the USCF MSA Database
does...

Bishops are better than knights by
Zero
I was like all of you once. I once believed that knights were better
than bishops.
But now I think that bishops are better than knights:
1) Bishops are better than Knights in open positions. You can always
open a closed position but you can never close an open position. (Open
positions are ones with less pawns on the board)
2) Bishops travel faster and have more mobility.

10th Anniversary of RGCP by
Tyrone Slothrop
In all this discussion of the Grudge Match, an event passed by without
comment. June 12th was the 10th anniversary of the split of
rec.games.chess into four groups, RGCP being one of them.
Among the first posters was none other than Larry Parr (who had
objected to the split).

Pig-wrestling in Chicago by
The Historian
As far as I know (I don't read everything in RGC*),
Bill Brock and Sam Sloan have agreed to play a match
of four games under the condition that Sam Sloan needs
to score only two points (not 2.5) to win the match.
As far as I am concerned, Sloan has already won. A convicted felon and
pornographer gets attention, money, and travel. I can't see why Bill
Brock chooses to mud-wrestle a pig;...

Don Schultz and the USCF Election Ballot Fiasco by
LWDubeck
As some of you may be aware first hand, thousands of USCF members who
are eligilbe to vote in the current Executive Board election either
received an invalid ballot or no ballot at all. Reportedly about 5,000
USCF voters were victims of this fiasco.
The invalid or missing ballots were not just randomly distributed.
Rather reportedly all voters in some geograhical areas received invalid
ballots....

Grudge Match Hints, Advice, and General Kibitzing thread by
Tyrone Slothrop
Now that it seems that the Grudge Match will happen, and I assume the
arbiter issue will be solved in a day or so, and then the prize fund
monies will then flow on to the arbiter for holding, I wanted to open
this thread to the kibitzers.
The challengers will be prep'ing up on their opponents games, and the
rest of us can offer the RGCP brand of advice regarding idiotic
openings, personal...
