Brock wins Game 1 of RGCP Grudge Match by Matt Nemmers
Bill Brock mated Sloan in a mere 30 moves during their first round match. As usual, Sloan plays a sloppy Grob, which earns him a pawn for a piece and a TON of defensive play with the white pieces. Next match begins at 1:00pm CST. In the ICC console, type "observe GRUDGE05" or "follow GRUDGE05" to watch and kibitz. Regards,

When is Parr's Next Book Coming Out? by parrthenon@cs.com
THE TWO MINDS OF MR. MAD Getting approval from Parr is about as much help as a bad case of herpes...Btw, when is your next exciting chess book coming out? I've been checking the remainder bins at Wal-Mart every day now, and no such luck. Chasmad I say hello to Chasmad, who mutters without let to himself about myself.

from Cleon Jones to Ricky Williams by politikalhack@gmail.com
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4653 Actually, I didn't blame Ricky. Large people were trying to knock him down. Ouch! And he was playing for a nice guy who had no business being a head coach in the NFL.

How much money did USCF lose while Schultz was President and Goichberg Vice President by LWDubeck
When the May Chess Life article by Stan Booz and myself was published which reported on the loss of over $1.7 million by USCF over 7 years, Don Schultz said that he was going to have the figures reviewed by other accountants. What I am asking is whether they disagreed with the numbers, which were taken from the annual audits of the USCF, for the 3 fiscal years when Don Schultz was USCF...

What is Parr's rating? (was: Pig-wrestling in Chicago) by Taylor Kingston
The Historian wrote: I can't see why Bill Brock chooses to mud-wrestle a pig; it only pleases the pig. There are so many better things to do with the money now being spent to move chess-offal to Chicago. Speaking of mud-wrestling, has Larry Parr ever had a USCF rating? Checking both www.uschess.org and old copies of Chess Life from the time he was editor, I can't find any rating for any...

Examples of Sloan's eloquence by Taylor Kingston
THE ADMIRABLE SAM SLOAN: MR. CLEAN "Mr. Sloan's language is cleaner than that of most of his gutter critics ..." - Larry Parr, rgcp, 23 June 2005 "I never paraded Mr. Sloan as a paragon; I stated that he is to be admired in certain ways when compared with a Brock, Booz, Trollsby or now humbled Kingston," - Larry Parr, rgcp, 23 June 2005 Thank you for your opinions, Larry. European Individual Championship (men) --Affter Round 7 by Gunsberg
Karjakin is looking to gain plenty of ratings points from this event. He is already at +5, and if he can maintain that by simply finishing the tournament with 3.0/6 that will probably be enough to stake a tie for 1st Place. Barring a collapse, he is going to qualify for the FIDE World Championship. Of course, 3.0/6 is not a cinch, since most of the field of potential opponents is both higher...

How is GOICHBERG preventing CHEATING at the World Open? by Ray Gordon
Seriously. I'd like to know what steps he's taking to protect the players who play some $250 or whatever to play in his tournament against cheating by their opponnets. Can players leave the table? Are visitors allowed in the tournament hall? Are they being checked for hand-held computers?

The $1 Billion Chess Cheater -- A Masked Bishop Adventure by Frisco Del Rosario
Daily Chess Planet editor Parry White threw his office door open and barked into his reporter pool, "Slane! Some kid's phone just rang at the big kids' tournament downtown, and now he's suspected of cheating. Get your butt down there, and take a photographer with you!" "I'm on it, Chief," said intrepid reporter Slois Slane. "C'mon, Jimmy." "Righto, Miss Slane," said cub photographer Jimmy...

Life is funny.... by politikalhack@gmail.com
Yes, I am big patzer: I saw 22.Nxg7 in game 2--just misevaluated the position, and I'm not sure what possessed me to play ...Rd3 in game 3 (other than a feeling that I had to do _something_). But that's not the funny I'm talking about. Intellectually, I don't feel any differently about Sam Sloan and his general effect on the dysfunctionality of USCF politics than I did yesterday.

Next RGCP Grudge Match.... by Matt Nemmers
.....who would the players be? This year Sam could've played just about *anybody* since he has so many detractors on here, but I have to admit that Bill Brock didn't really spring to mind as the top contendah. That he had the stones and the cash to git'r dun speaks well for him (even if he lost) to put a challenge on the table and follow through. But because Bill and Sloan are within 150 or so...
