question on rating floors by
Mike Murray
If my floor is, e.g., 2000 and I play several events well below that
level, is there a "real" rating of say, 1870 stored somewhere and the
2000 is only what is *published*.
Then, later, if I have one good event where my performance rating is
2100, will my rating now go above 2000? Or will it stay at 2000 until
my "real" rating goes above 2000?

Sam's Games from the World Open by
Sam Sloan
I played poorly in the World Open in games 4 and 5. I do not know what
went wrong with me, especially in Game 4. Perhaps these games can be
used to lure another opponent into a one thousand dollar grudge match
like the one I won the previous weekend in Chicago.
The last game, which I won, was fairly interesting against a
promising Junior.
My score of 6-3 earned me a prize of $37.50, but was...

Open Letter to Beatriz by

AN OPEN LETTER TO BEATRIZ MARINELLO
July 26, 2005
Dear Beatriz:
With slightly over two weeks remaining before the Delegates meet in
Phoenix and the new Executive Board takes office, you have declared
your intention to sign a contract with a builder to construct USCF's
new headquarters in Crossville, and to arrange a mortgage to fund this
construction cost.

DEEP OBSERVATIONS ON LIFE
Advice for the day: If you have a lot of tension and you

The London bombs by
mike.goodall@comcast.net
Let's all thank the Lord that this time the bombs didn't go off. I
hope the perpetraters are caught and punished. But as I said in
another thread: as long as Britain makes war on Muslims, it can expect
retaliation from Muslims. The same goes for the US. If the US and
Britain leave Iraq, the incidence of terrorism will subside. That's
what history tells us. If the occupying force leaves, the...

CROSSVILLE by
beatchess@aol.com
The following e-mail was sent to the Executive Board and upcoming
members of the EB. I am posting a copy of this e-mail for all our
members information.
The keys of the financial recovery of the USCF were that we were able
to greatly reduce expenses, the outsourcing of the B&E and the
relocation of the USCF's HQ to Crossville, TN. The USCF has about
$800,000 in liquidated assess and a...

August rating list no good by
Eric Mark
Just got an email from ED Bill Hall, saying that the printed August
rating list is incorrect and should not be used. It seems Mr. Hall's
message was sent to all TDs and affiliates who are registered at the
TD/Affiliate area.
Does anyone know how this happened? Is it related to the incorrect
floors assigned to some players that Mike Nolan mentioned in another
thread?
This is a new one in my...

Done Deals; Swampland, Natrol, Out-of-Contol by
Chess One
Dear Readers,
Six months ago the Secret 4 were encouraging us to trust them in their
dealings on the future of chess in the USA. Recently a massive vote by
members conclusively rejected that approach.
Recently the chess world has been shocked by the Natrol sponsorship for
which there has been no apology offered and scant explanation why any board
member could commit USCF to a scandalous...

Qualifications by
BrotherNehoc
There is already speculation about staying in Crossville and about Bill
Hall remaining as Executive Director . I recently happened to pull
out the November 2004 Chess Life. On page 6 is an article that
includes a "Nationwide Search for Applicants". Listed at the end of
the section for ED was a subsection entitled "Desired Qualifications"
These were as follows:
"A Masters in Business...

A Challenge to Parr by
Don C. Aldrich
I have sat here and watched Larry Parr defame a good and honest man,
Randy Bauer, without doing or saying anything. Now that Parr has
defamed me as well, I get my dander up. I apologize Randy. I should
have spoken up sooner.
I really have no idea why Parr is so down on the USCF move, but he is
apparently ready and willing to attack anyone and anybody who
approves, and even get in bed with a...

Bill Goichberg goes shopping and buys a Chess Federation by Andrew Zito
or CRISIS IN THE USCF: REVIEW OF THE JULY 2005 USCF Vote
This most recent vote to elect new members of the USCF Executive Board
exemplifies systemic weaknesses of the USCF leadership. The latest board elected to
lead the United States Chess Federation is unrepresentative of the USCF
membership.
The final vote tally...

Where is the commitment to grow the adult numbers by 3-5%? by
RSHaas@aol.com
Each candidate has his/her campaign statement. One guy says job one
is the website, another is freaked out by COI issues, and there is the
usual crew of kiddie herders.
I didn't see anything from any candidate (or current Board) that
could be taken as a commitment to grow adult membership by even a
modest 3-5%.
What would it take to grow the adult numbers by just 3-5%? Ideas
please.
