Wait a second. 2005 US Championships in 2004?! by
Alberich@somewhere.com
I think I read this in the article on Chessbase.com recently. If the
US Chess championships for 2005 is being held in San Diego, Cal in Dec
2004 then...does that mean WIM Jennifer Shahade has to defend her
title so soon?! She was barely crowned Women's US Chess champion
before shipping off to the Olympiad that just finished in Spain. To me
it's ridiculous to stage a Women's US Chess championships...

What questions were asked in Crossville? by
Miriling
When the USCF Executive Board met for a board meeting in Crossville, Tenn., on
Sept. 24-25, 2004, it had the opportunity of meeting Philip D. Elmore of
ArchiStructures Inc., the local architect who designed the proposed new
building for the federation and showed drawings of the building and answered
questions.
What questions were asked of the architect and who asked them?
What were Mr. Elmore's...

Sloan Suit tossed by
Don C. Aldrich
God help me, I actually read something posted on Sam's site, in
particular the decision handed down by the court.
Essentially, the judge tossed Sam's suit for failure to follow proper
procedure. Imagine that. While it is without prejudice, meaning he
can come back, he also included this paragraph:
"Based on the complex nature of the issues involved, this Court
requires, pursuant to CPLR...

Did Richard Peterson Really Forge His Own Signature? by
Sam Sloan
The burning issue in 1999 was the question of who forged the signature
of Richard Peterson to the 1999 National Elementary Championship
contract.
Richard Peterson claimed that someone in the USCF office, who must
have been Beatriz Marinello as she was the Scholastic Director and the
person directly concerned with the contract, had forged his signature.
However, Beatriz said that handwriting...

Sloan drops the ball by
Randy Bauer
Ace legal beagle Sam Sloan was required by the Court to personally serve by
November 22, 2044 the defendents in his latest "big case," Sloan v.
Marinello et al.
It is now November 23, 2004; it is my understandnig that none of the
defendents have been personally served notice.
I sure hope all his backers can get their money back. I'd probably start by
checking the local betting parlors.

Cal Chess & Richard Peterson by
Fifiela
I have it from Cal Chess sources that civil and criminal action has recently
been taken against Richard Peterson in the alleged theft of the entire Cal
Chess treasury this last August. Richard Peterson has indirectly refered to
the recent Cal Chess action to this in one of his latest emails on Cal Chess
lists.
To quote Richard Peterson's mail, "The attempt by Elizabeth Shaughnessy, Eric
Hicks,...

Online submission of rating reports by
Mike Nolan
Joe Riegsecker writes:
My first experience with an online rating report seems to have been a
success. The tournament was held on November 13. That evening I
submitted the memberships and the next morning I submitted the rating
report. It was rated on November 19. Everything seems to be okay,
except that the old ratings of two lapsed USCF members were not used.
They...

Sloan vs. Marinello, petition by
WPraeder
Sam, are you familiar with the consequences of willful perjury, libel, and
slander? Also, wasn't the USCF organized in Illinois? Just curious.
Stan,
I hope this acts as a wake up call for the Federation concerning the need for a
businesslike board. There should however be redress for false or frivolous
legal claims under the law.

How to Avoid Crossville Crisis by
Parrthenon
Win or lose -- the USCF can ill-afford astronomical legal fees in fighting this
lawsuit.
The simplest way to avoid this crisis, it seems to me, is for the board to hold
another teleconference placing the motion to move to Crossville in abeyance
pending a two-week delay to study the feasibility of the Liberty site --
provided that Bill Goichberg and Erik Anderson are still willing to...

Bobby Fischer autographed Russian chess magazine from 1965 by
Devon
Calling all Bobby Fischer fans/experts! Does anyone know how I might
gauge the value of such an item? I found one being auctioned and it
actually appears to be the real deal, so I'm trying to decide if I can
afford it before I get all hot and bothered about it.
Also, does anyone have any insight as to whether Bobby will in fact be
extradited to the U.S. anytime soon?
Thanks for your help!

I found this great little site by
I found this great little site
I found this great little site. I signed up two weeks ago and got 2 Disney tickets and this week they are sending me 2 Universal Studios tickets. Here's the link http://66.219.102.40/ and by the way I am a real person, this is my real email address. I'm not a spammer and didn't appreciate the nasty email I got last time I tried to post this link.
Thanks,...

Everything is simple and straightforward by
Parrthenon
There are no hidden agendas and nothing tricky or secret going on here. It
only seems complicated if you read Sam Sloan's demented ravings ("USCF has a
million dollars in the bank and Beatriz wants to become Executive Director so
she can steal it") or Larry Parr's sly insinuations ("everything depends on
the fine print surrounding the proposed deposit in that Tennessee bank. One
suspects...

USCF Could Be Anywhere by
ASCACHESS
I have given up even maintaining the pretense that the Executive Board will
follow the rules they readily set up for everyone else.
But, we are missing a major point.
After years of screwups, USCF is finally heading towards online services and a
justifiable deemphasis on expensive employees. This should have been done long
ago. Isn't it ironic that only financial collapse could make the old...

One newspaper in San Diego area has done a story in advance of the event! My
google alert for CHESS picked up the link for me.
I had not recalled seeing any thing in the Nov issue of CHESS LIFE so I looked
at the issue again. There was a full page ad.

Old Farts ramble on... mostly off topic... zzz by
Chess One
I have decided to become old before my time. Its a spur of the moment
decision, an awkwardly youthful impulse. In other words a contradiction of
terms or even a paradox.
Anyway: A question for Sam Sloan. Have you ever read The Girl Who Played GO,
a novel by Shan Sa. Its a GO equivalent to that interesting book, The
Queen's Gambit.
Shan Sa was born in 1972 in Beijing. In 1990 she left China for...
