MSA / ratings database query query by Bill Brock
I remember that Al Losoff used to have a back door to the USCF database (at the 64.com website?) that we could use to run dynamic reports like " 1599 + IL + 16 " Are there any state associations with such access who allow their members to run similar queries? Would it be possible for ilchess.org to get such access (restricted to IL residents)?

vs Leningrad Dutch by HAASpittle
Try 1. d4 f5; 2. c4 Nf6; 3. Nc3 g6;4. f3 ... vs the Leningrad Dutch and see what happens. Seems to me white gets positions he can play on the q/side, in the center, or on the k/side. Somebody tell me why 4. f3 is a bad move for white vs the Leningrad Dutch. RSHaas

ACLU now says government surveillance is ok! by Graeme
WHAT!!? Just hand us an Orwellian nightmare on a stick. Monitoring of public spaces is just as infringing of privacy as private spaces, Uhhh... since public places are, by definition, not private, I don't really see how that can be. People can read your usenet postings (another form of surveillance) without your permission also, because this is (drumroll) a public place. I'm sorry if...

USCF Letter to 80 Friendly Countries by Chessdon
Dear Chess Friend: Throughout the world of chess, FIDE has never been held in lower esteem. Decisions are made in dictatorial fashion by a part-time president based upon recommendations from a small group of self-serving politicians. As an example, take the most recent FIDE World Championship which was held in a country in defiance of the spirit of Gens Una Sumus and whose entry passport...
