Look at how stinking Reuters spin this, referring to a letter 'purportedly' written by Spassky. Look too at how they report without comment the US government lie that it took years for 'the legal process' to 'catch up' with Fischer, and how they report the fact that his passport was renewed in 1997 as if it is only an assertion made by his reporters, rather than a fact.

You're right, it didn't seem like a top priority. "Hunted down" is a bit too dramatic. It has a certain samsloanian sound to it. What I find interesting though is that the US thought enough about this case to resurrect it after 12 years, and that Japan went along. There are probably hundreds if not thousands of fugitive criminals guilty of far worse crimes than Fischer who are still running...
