Cat Pee by
HAASpittle
Got cats? Inside cats? Got cats that pee on your carpet, on the sofa or
the bed? Then you know the smell of cat pee is almost impossible to eradicate
completely.
Guess what? Right here in my little old hometown of Sarasota a small
bio-tech company has developed a bio-engineered product designed to completely,
totally, and thoroughly eradicate cat pee in fabrics. The product is...

Calling Detroit.. by
HAASpittle
We should get the membership numbers soon from Pete Nixon in Detroit. I'm
guessing the adult number will be down about 200. I'm guessing the rate of
decline will start to slow down just a bit. Just a guess, however.

Chess Mate magazine 1999 bound volume by Arvind Aaron by

Chess Mate magazine 1999 bound volume by Arvind Aaron
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4203903170
India is one of the fastest improving countries in the world in Chess.
In years past, India had no grandmasters only one International
Master, Manuel Aaron, the father of Arvind Aaron.
Nowadays, however, India has many grandmasters and the number seems to
be increasing all the...

Americans in top 100 by
Angelo DePalma
The United States is represented by a grand total of one American-developed
player in the top 100 on FIDE's new list. That's Syrian-born Yasser
Seirawan, # 78, who did not play any FIDE-rated games during the last rating
period (I believe Yasser has retired from serious chess). Excluding
Seirawan, our three highest-rated players (all from Eastern Europe) weigh in
at 2624, 2621, and 2611 (I'm...

Who is Nick? by
Sam Sloan
When Nick started posting here, I thought he was somebody new. Now, I
believe that he is one of these anonymous posters who keep reappearing
under different names and personalities. One reason why I feel this
way is that he attacks me every day without apparently knowing me and
without any reason that I can think of.
So, I think that Nick might be the same person as for example Liam, or
the Old...

Chess Life still needs an editor by
The Masked Bishop
I've browsed through the recent copy, and while the English is
improving, the lack of a real editor at the helm still shows.
--Larry Evans "Reflections" article. No intro, no conclusion, and no
logical structure. Just a meandering set of paragraphs, some with
poorly-interspersed quotes, most of them unrelated to each other.
--Cover story. Chess Life continues its new fascination...

Chess Life is Here by
Ron Suarez
Yes, I got my Chess Life in the mail today, before the 1st of the
month!!!!. Now where oh where are the complainers?!?!?
Bruce Draney (the USCF sky is falling and nothing can go right),
George (magnifying glass in hand finding every little flaw), Richard
Petersen (what was my wife's name again?) and the others are not
posting yet....how flawed.
Now you will say that I am trolling and that is...

Advice for my 6yo bro? by
Scott
My 6yo brother (just six in March) has been getting steadily better -
he has been playing chess since I taught him at 4yo and currently he
has a high-rated tournament-playing IM as his teacher. If I were to
guess my brother's rating I would say 1200. We brought him to a
psychologist for testing and his IQ tested at 154. Currently he
attends a "gifted" school where there are casual chess games....

Vote for Sam Sloan on the June issue ballot by
The Masked Bishop
I encourage everyone here to vote for Sam Sloan to the Executive Board
this June.
Now, after all the spit-takes and screaming have subsided, let me
offer up some reasons.
Sloan is routinely dissed on this board for his own personal excesses
and eccentricities. We've all seen the examples: unwanted posts about
his lawsuit with his brother; bizarre claims about being the "only
person" to ever to...

Bobby Fischer - Wondering about the Bekins' auction, Bob Ellsworth, and all that . . . by
Stan Shankman
Greetings Chess fans,
I'm wondering about Bobby Fischer, Bob Ellsworth, the Bekins' auction and all that.
I don't see much written about it - other than what I read on the Internet and especially on Fischer's Japanese website.
- And I can't help but wonder how one-sided that information might be. (If you know what I mean.)
So does anyone know if Bob Ellsworth has ever come out and made a...

Pono and FIDE by
joe mccarron
It seems Ponomariov is still willing to play puruant to the agreement that
he and FIDE had when he won the title. (and here I'm not talkign
about reunification because ultimately it appears the parites couldn't
agree on that. Kasparov appearantly wouldn't accept draw odds and the
90 minute time control) I wonder if FIDE will honor their original
agreement and let him defend the title.

Higgledy - piggledy
There are many changes, not only in chess, chess web sites, but moreover on
the world scene.
It wouldn't be big loss when Chess Cafe switch off. At least it wouldn't be
tragedy for chess fans. Millions of the web sites were failed. Some warnings
about copyright violation seem ridiculous when you see every day much bigger
violation like killing innocent people and destroying...

Babies beat me at chess by
Hank Higgens
I canīt win a game of chess against a baby, I cannot win against a
vintage computer like a C64 and I cannot win against my dog.
Am I too stupid for chess? Or are babies, C64s and dogs chessmasters ?

USATE re-rate by
Eric Mark
Seems the USATE was re-rated for the April 1 rating run. Either that
or something strange happened to the ratings of several players I
know; ratings changed for guys who haven't played since the team
tournament.
Strange doings. Anyone know anything about this?

Story I heard about 2003 US Women's Playoff by
Sam Sloan
A chess master who is friends with the participants has just related
the following story:
At the conclusion of the 2003 US Chess Championship, three women were
tied for the woman's prize. They were Irina Krush, Jennifer Shahade
and Anna Hahn.
All three of them are friends. Therefore, since both Irina Krush and
Jennifer Shahade had previously won the US Woman's Championship, they
decided to give...

How come a certain "seduction guru" is home in mommy's basement on SATURDAY Night by
HC
How come a certain "seduction guru" is home in mommy's basement on SATURDAY
Night instead of being out seducing women?
I mean it is SATURDAY Night . . . one would think that when a self professed
seduction guru CHOOSES to stay home on a Saturday night and argue on the
Internet instead of going out to get some babes, one would be left no choice
but to determine that said "guru" is really not a...
