CL finds new chess historian: Prof. Gigliotti by
Miriling
The Winter 2004 issue of Chess Life will have another installment of Chess
History, identified on the USCF Web site as Espisode 12. This time the
article is not written by longtime Chess History columnist and former USCF
president John McCrary, who later resigned from the executive board. The new
writer and "chess historian" is Gilbert L. Gigliotti, a professor of English at
Central Connecticut...

legal sense and nonsense by

I am more than a little concerned with recent posts which skate very close
to an edge in respect of copyright infringement and personal defamation. I
do request that posters will not attempt to misrepresent other's opinions or
make knowingly false statements concerning others.
This morning I discovered the following statement:-

So, Was the Line of Credit Repaid? by
ASCACHESS
Those who have been around for a while will remember that there was a mandate
to repay the $300,000 line of credit by 1/1/04.
Was this done?

REAL reason for adult membership decline by
Angelo DePalma
The prevailing opinion on this newsgroup holds that USCF is losing adult
members because of high dues. While I agree that $49 dues cannot possibly
promote membership beetter than $39 or $29 dues, in my opinion most working
adults don't even think of the extra $10 or $20 per year.
It occurred to me, however, that there is something that everyone, including
cardboard box-dwellers and perpetual...

Miriling
The Winter 2004 issue of Chess Life, scheduled to be mailed out the last week
in January, is labeled a "Special Bonus Issue." The cover features a group file
photo of Fischer, along with Robert Byrne, Benko and Rossolimo. The overhead
caption points out that on March 9 Fischer will be 61.
A preview of the issue is found on the USCF Web site.

USCF Patron Program Potential Problems by
ASCACHESS
http://www.uschess.org/org/patrons.php#PP
I wondered how the USCF could be offering as tax deductible, contributions made
to the USCF, which is how it itinially appears in their advertising.
But when you get into the text, you see that your check must be made payable to
the US Chess Trust for the donation to be tax deductible.
So now another problem.

Chess life decision from last ED meeting? by
Mark
One week ago Don Schultz's summary of the recent EB meeting said that some
sort of decision had been made concerning chess life. He refused to
specify at the time as those affected had not yet been notified. Can Don
or anyone else now reveal what this decision was?

Brainstorming: what could fill the void? by
The Masked Bishop
I'd like to start a discussion for those of us who are convinced that the
USCF is a dying organziation, and are not interested in discussing ways of
reviving it, or even keeping it functioning at the current low level which
it operates now. Instead, how about some brainstorming on what could fill
the void, once the USCF goes belly-up? Or do we even need to wait for that?
For those who continue...
