USCF losing money? Too ****ING BAD by
LeModernCaveman
A long time ago I had all these ideas for making it a better, stronger
organization, and bringing a world title to America.
Want to know what a rather wealthy patron of the game said to me as I was
taking dollars from his drunk ass?
"No one is impressed."
When people don't consider new ideas, and they go down with the old, they
DESERVE their lot in life.

Three People Who Knew More than Mike Nolan by

Failure of the USCF Executive Board and Operations to address the
following significant problems, each of which has clear financial
importance, has caused us to resign from the FC. Leroy Dubeck, Jim
Pechac, Helen Warren.
1. The significant delay by USCF Operations in presentation and
release of final financial information for fiscal year end 2002,

New Color Blend? by
Don Mihokovich
I've read and only begun to understand some of the history of Reds,
Blacks and even Greens. How about a color for the new Board?
We have remnance of Red, and will have for quite some time.
We have some Yellow (Yellow is the colour of the Sun and is often
associated with happiness and childhood (scholastic chess?). Go into
any toy store and you'll see yellow everywhere. Think of The...

Women in chess by
JimEade
If you guys keep referring to women as "hot chicks", you will continue to
exacerbate the problem of the paucity of women in chess.
Bill Smythe
I'm slamming Smythe on other threads, so I feel compelled to point out that he
is exactly right on this one.
James Eade

Hey, don't worry.. by
PhilDPage
Hey, guys, don't worry about the good old USCF. Last year McCrary said we were
only $4 away. Now that we've lost another $300,000 odd, or about $3 per
member, we're only $7 away. Everything will be fine and dandy after the adult
dues go up to $56.

Where Shall We Meet? by

Where shall we meet to seriously plan the design and formation of the next
national chess federation? Seriously, folks... we should start now.
(RSHaas)
We can meet here.
Question #1: should the next national chess federation be a not-for-profit
or for-profit?

Will anybody who voted for Sam Sloan DARE to speak up? by

(And no, pity-votes and jokes don't count. And if you were drunk when you
voted for him, that doesn't count either.)
Would anyone who *seriously* voted for Sloan thinking he was a *serious*
candidate like to hang a big matzah-ball out there and admit it on...

Rules Question: What to do about Digital Clocks set without Time Delay? by
Isidor Gunsberg
In a recent tournament, where it explicitly stipulated that Digital
Clocks must be set for Time Delay, there arose a couple of disputes
involving clocks that did not have Time Delay correctly set. The cases
involved clocks that were lent to them by 3rd parties, so it was
impossible to assign culpability for incorrectly setting the clock to
either of the players who were contesting the games.

New Hampshire chessplayer is Penis Enlargement King? by
The Dirty Vicar
http://www.nhpr.org/view_content/5042/
The story claims that 19 year old New Hampshire chessplayer Braden Bournival
is making a lot of money sending out spam emails and selling penis
enlargement pills. It also claims that he is associated with a Rhode Island
man named Davis Wolfgang Hawke, who is described as a "chess champion" and
"the founder and leader of neo-Nazi group called the Knights of...

Another drinking and playing chess experiment by
GreenPencil
Hi guys,
Been drinking heavily and playing ICC. My trial account was rated
1523 based on 47 games, mostly 4 4.
I played 4 blitz games at each 0.02 BAL. It usually took about 40
minutes to play these games, since after every second game I had to
pee. So a purist will say that by the time I played the forth game at
each particular blood alcohol level it was really lower by about 0.007
given...

How does this compare to St. Paul, Framingham and Cherry Hill totals
before the shortened schedules begin? How many players are
pre-registered for the shortened schedules? Also, what is the late/on
site entry fee for the tournament?

Ken Horne- Blast from the Past by
ASCACHESS
Many of you remember Ken Horne from Nevada who was a champion of prison chess.
Ken put forward the following ADM in 1999 shortly before he died in a plane
crash. Ken's idea makes such good sense that of course it was WITHDRAWN
because we didn't do it that way in the past. Yikes.
ADM 00-16/DM 99-60/ADM 99-52 ( Ken Horne, NV): It is moved that the next
revised copy of the Rulebook be published...

If chess pieces could talk... by
Ivan
I wonder what they would say if chess pieces could talk. I believe
that it would sound like a dysfunctional family because it is the
queen that is wearing the pants in that household; not the king.
I think the Bishops would act really arrogant because they can attack
long range and they like stuck up pieces anyway. I picture Rooks to
talk slow and sluggish but with old age wisdom.
Who knows...

Bob Hope and Bobby Fischer by

With the death of Bob Hope this week, one should be reminded of the fact that
Bobby Fischer made a special guest appearance on one of Hope's TV specials in
the fall of 1972. I remember reading somewhere that Hope stated that Fischer
was the worst person he ever had to do deal with on his TV show.
Brad Darrach, who wrote Bobby Fischer vs. the Rest of the World, doesn't go
