Aviv Friedman
The message below is from the Rec.gambling.poker newsgroup:
Good going Tom! A very nice victory!
Looks like chess masters and world class pokerists Dan Harrington and
Bob Ciaffone have a serious competitor:)

Why bother? by
Hanky Panky
Why bother with Crossville? Why bother with B&E? Why bother with
Chess Life?
1. Let's not move to Crossville! Let's hand USCF over to Erik
Anderson, Yasser Seirawan and AF4C. Let them own it. Let them run it.
Let them take over our headaches. Let them move it to Seattle.
2. Let's not lose money with B&E. Let's just get out of B&E at once.
Let Malcolm, Hanon and Camaratta fight it out. They...

September Chess Life.... by
Edward Bonaventure
On 21 Aug 2003 at 14:25:32 GMT, Dr. Kevin Croxen scribbled:
-I could actually easily see in, say, six months or so, right before
-the USCF tanks for the last time, that CL could be gone completely
-and the only print coming out of New Windsor/Crossville would be a
-monthly, stapled, 5-page mailing of TLAs to the membership.
Good idea! I'm glad you thought of it! Keep up the good...

Dump Ponomariov !! by

Ponomariov, the so-called FIDE World Champion, has once again refused
to sign a contract to play the match with Kasparov. The cry-baby of
chess clearly knows as does everybody else what the result of this
match will be and he does not want to lose his world championship.
Today is the final deadline. If Ponomariov does not sign, and it...

JAWS V announced by
The Masked Bishop
After keeping this still-hot property under wraps for over a decade, because
of the critically-derided Jaws IV, Universal has finally announced plans to
begin filming "Jaws V -- End Game" next summer.
The plot involves an over-the-hill chess American grandmaster, currently in
hiding somewhere in East Europe, and a secret conspiracy movement working
against him and western chess interests. This...

Announcing the "S-Fascist" Line of USCF T-Shirts. by
Bruce Draney
You've heard him on RGCP. America's favorite optometrist is now
immortalized with his own line of USCF T-Shirts for the 2003 Holiday
Season. Comes in all the most popular sizes of X Large, XX Large, XXX
large, Double Reinforced Chair Breaker, Triple Reinforced Chair Breaker,
and Need a Bulldozer to move me for those who used to wear the quintuple
gargantuan shirt that has been discontinued. ...

Richard Petersen--Claim What You Are... by
Ron Suarez
OK Richard, a number of threads and postings regarding your action(s)
have asked you specific questions that you have neglected to directly
respond to.
Aviv, a really nice guy and PROFESSIONAL, asked you some direct
questions regarding your legal suit against the USCF. He asked you to
elucidate the details and to see if there was a way to quietly make
the problem go away. Your response was to...

Who is being served? What then? by
ASCACHESS
We hear that various parties are coming forward with emergency cash in order to
keep USCF liquid. They are spitting in an ocean of debt.
Now the question must be asked, who is being served by their charity?
Is it the average player in the street or the children's program in the inner
city?
I think not.
I think those served are the same ones who put us in this position.
If I were them, I would...

B & E versus some other organizations by
D. B. Rea
I've been following the issues concerning the survival of the USCF for a
number of months now, and am one of the paltry few who voted in the new
election. For the record, I have never played in a tournament rated or
otherwise. I joined the USCF for the magazine when my favorite local news-
stand went out of business. I also thought there would be some benefit
from access to US Chess Live and...

Rated Games Per Year by
John Fernandez
Lower dues but a fee of $1
per player per game (or some other meaningful number) may be reasonable.
Kevin L. Bachler
Well, $1 per player per game is $2 a game in fees. A lot of "low cost entry
fee" events would not be able to break even on that plus the TLA fees.

Ron Young For USCF CZAR by
LeModernCaveman
We need him.
The man is too good for the organization.
Fair. Unbiased. Very good player. Could be doing 1,000 better things but
seems to like the game.
Just hand the federation over to him.
I'll rejoin if they do.

New World Championship Format: Play ME! by
LeModernCaveman
Each challenger has to play ME in blitz chess, and each time one of them loses,
they're eliminated.
Seems as good as the format they are using now.

Tim's Dues Proposal. Will it Fly? by
Bruce Draney
Tim Hanke has come up with a proposal for USCF dues that is very
interesting and certainly merits discussion. I know that if the Board
passes Tim's proposal, that this will be historic, because I know
several of the most powerful and prominent leaders of USCF in the past
are vehemently opposed to the entire concept of non-magazine/tournament
participation memberships. Desperate times however...

Clock rules question by
The Masked Bishop
Here's the scenario:
Two players are playing a G/30 game with an analog clock. The tournament
allowed use of a digital with 5-second delay, but neither player had a
digita. It's Black's clock...White didn't have one.
White got into time trouble. With two minutes left to play, he stopped the
clocks and asked the tournament director for a digital clock (there was now
one available from a nearby...

Turnkey Fundraising Program for USCF by

I recently discovered and signed on to market an outstanding turnkey
fundraising program that could be utilized by the USCF and other chess
organizations.. as well as organizations beyond chess. I have sent the link to
Beatrice and Tim for their examination.
I won't reveal specific details until I get some feedback from Beatriz and
Tim. If the USCF signs on to participate in this fundraising...
