New Faces, Same Old Song, Nolan ED? by
Bruce Draney
Altes Wiesel wrote:
And can you believe that Mike Nolan, the guy who missed a
$364,000 loss (even though Tom Doan pointed out the problem a year ago) is
the new interim ED?
Say what? Did you really just say that Mike Nolan has been appointed
interim ED at USCF? Wow!! That's really all I can say, is wow!!!
Mike does software design as his vocation, so perhaps this is not as

Debi. Come Back, We Miss You. by
Debi Sherry
Bruce Draney wrote in message ...
In the New Windsor area, an APB has been put out for Debbi Sharri. If
found, she is to be brought immediately to New Windsor to be debriefed
and rehired. She will be made queen for a week and will be allowed to
fire the wicked "bitches" who made her life miserable, if she will agree
to start doing...

Old email to FCA by
RSHaas
Although I've never been a fan of state chess associations, about a year ago
I sent an email to the FCA board suggesting they prepare the FCA to go it alone
in case the USCF collapses. I suggested among other things that the FCA raise
its dues so as to gain a larger share of the common member's "gross
membership," meaning the gross fees one is willing to pay for all chess
association...

Chief Operating Officer not covered by USCF bylaws by
Miriling
Who is the USCF Executive Board trying to fool? Why doesn't it call a spade a
spade? The position of Chief Operating Officer is not covered by the bylaws
(Article VII: Other Officers, Appointees, and Committees). In USCF News Release
24 of 2003, it states that Chief Operating Officer "Mr. Nolan will . . . report
directly to the Executive Board, and will be responsible for overseeing all
USCF...

Is Peterson in L.A.?
How is he reacting to the new USCF President?
Are the rumors coming back from LA true? Will USCF finally get some D&O
coverage in place for the EB as a result?

Susan Polgar won the 2003 US Open Blitz Championship! by
Roger
I am not a tournament director, so perhaps one would be so kind as to
explain something to me that seems unusual. I am speaking of the
pairings from the US Open Blitz tournament. In particular, I am
referring to the final 2 rounds.
In the tournament, the two co-leaders played each other in the fourth
round, Zsuzsa Polgar and Alex Wojtkiewicz. They split the games and
dropped to 2nd place, behind...

A New Coalition? by
Bruce Draney
The selection of officers for the new Board suggests a major realignment
of the planets which is a very positive step in my view. Out is John
McCrary and Frank Camaratta. In addition Don Schultz is not made an
officer at all. The President is none other than Beatriz, the first
woman to ever hold the USCF Presidency in our history. VP is Shutt,
Treasurer is Hanke and Secretary is Brady who was...

2003-2004 The Year of Excruciating Pain. by
Bruce Draney
Every year we must name the upcoming chess year with something catchy,
clever and bitterly ironic. For example in 2001 when Tim Redman
destroyed OTB chess with the help of George DeFeis it was the "Year of
the Over the Board Tournament", even though all of Redman and DeFeis'
policies were approved with the goal of phasing out over the board
tournament chess in favor of internet chess and selling...

The Reds Lie Again -- And Again by
Altes Weisel
Elect Don Schulz and the Reds, and you get huge losses again and again. But
they tell us that we are at break-even. Look at the below from BG's
official Red website, they told us for 3 months in a row that we were going
to hit break-even -- all lies to get people to vote RED in the election,
just like Schulz's big graph lie from years ago. How long are you guys
gonna believe Goichberg and...

Let the Rumors Start Here. by
Bruce Draney
I have nothing but shear speculation to base this on, but is it possible
that Harry Sabine might be named ED to replace Frank Niro, now that Niro
has resigned?
I don't know Harry Sabine personally, but know he lives in Tennessee
which is where USCF is moving. I know that Sabine has very cordial
relations with the McCrary Board and that it will be difficult to
attract good ED candidates to a...

According to CBS News, quoting the Vail (Colo.) Daily newspaper, the alleged

USCF losing money? Too ****ING BAD by
LeModernCaveman
A long time ago I had all these ideas for making it a better, stronger
organization, and bringing a world title to America.
Want to know what a rather wealthy patron of the game said to me as I was
taking dollars from his drunk ass?
"No one is impressed."
When people don't consider new ideas, and they go down with the old, they
DESERVE their lot in life.

Three People Who Knew More than Mike Nolan by

Failure of the USCF Executive Board and Operations to address the
following significant problems, each of which has clear financial
importance, has caused us to resign from the FC. Leroy Dubeck, Jim

1. The significant delay by USCF Operations in presentation and

New Color Blend? by

I've read and only begun to understand some of the history of Reds,
Blacks and even Greens. How about a color for the new Board?
We have remnance of Red, and will have for quite some time.
We have some Yellow (Yellow is the colour of the Sun and is often
associated with happiness and childhood (scholastic chess?). Go into
any toy store and you'll see yellow everywhere. Think of The...

Women in chess by
JimEade
If you guys keep referring to women as "hot chicks", you will continue to
exacerbate the problem of the paucity of women in chess.
Bill Smythe
I'm slamming Smythe on other threads, so I feel compelled to point out that he
is exactly right on this one.

Hey, don't worry.. by
PhilDPage
Hey, guys, don't worry about the good old USCF. Last year McCrary said we were
only $4 away. Now that we've lost another $300,000 odd, or about $3 per
member, we're only $7 away. Everything will be fine and dandy after the adult
dues go up to $56.

Where Shall We Meet? by
George John

Where shall we meet to seriously plan the design and formation of the next
national chess federation? Seriously, folks... we should start now.
(RSHaas)
We can meet here.
Question #1: should the next national chess federation be a not-for-profit
or for-profit?
