USCF's copyright, and protection of copyright by
Chess One
This comment follows a comment on Sam Sloan's usage of Pal Benko's material
So are you saying I can take pages from Time magazine, bundle them in a
book
(looking exactly as printed in TIME)....and say "here is my new book of
author
X's work"?
I don't think so. You can't just copy CL pages.

Who Will Be Questioned? by
OdessaChess
About USCF finances when Attorney Generals step in and the IRS and Justice
Department come calling. Will it be:
Joel Channing?
Grant Perks?
Frank Niro?
Bill Goichberg?
The cooks are hard at work preparing the books. But, they await the final
spice that will be so nice.

Sam's Plan Down the Drain by
samsloan
The current Maor of LA made an insane list of often contradictory
campaign promises to get himself elected. At his first press
conference as Mayor, he was asked when he would begin implementing his
fantasy wish list.
His reply? "I didn't promise to do them all in my first term"
Sam didn't promise one million scholastic members in his first term.
We lost a great opportunity by not giving him...

Joel Channing wants all criticism of Polgar to be stopped by
samsloan
After an extremely divisive election campaign in which many feel was
the dirties campaign in USCF election history, Susan Polgar was
elected in a landslide and received probably the highest percentage of
votes in any contested USCF election.
In recognition of this, Susan was given the title of "Chairman of the
USCF" (a title that does not exist in the bylaws but that is another
issue).
Now,...

Before we go forward, outstanding business by
Chess One
Just a top note: I have received several other inquiries on
'insider-trading' - one from another GM, and 2 more from national names in
chess, and I have also invited 2 board members to look at this situation
after they get their feet under the table - or the full board, as necessary.
If what follows at bottom is part A of the affair, part B relates to
trading-partner practices, and here is a...

Who invented the word "Trollgar"? by
samsloan
I believe that the word "Trollgar" was originally invented by Neal
Brennen, who has recently returned to posting here as "The Historian".
The first use I can find of the word "Trollgar" comes in the thread
entitled "Legal Threats from Polgar and Truong", posted on January 1,
2004.
The term "Trollgar" has become widely accepted. For example, Jennifer
Shahade uses it in her acclaimed book "Chess...

State Opens on Labor Day by
Old Haasie
How well did the various state open tournaments do this past Labor
Day? I skipped the Florida Open. Too expensive overall, maybe $500
just to play six games of chess. Sorreeeee. Maybe my USCF Metro
District will organize some events closer to home.

online business education by

The naming of degrees eventually became linked with the subjects
studied. Scholars in the faculties of arts or grammar became known as
masters, but those in philosophy, medicine and law were known as
doctor. As study in the arts or in grammar was a necessary
prerequisite to study in subjects such as philosophy, medicine and
law, the degree of doctor assumed a higher status than the...

"enforcement" vs. "strict enforcement" by
samsloan
The Great Issue of the Day which is currently being debated by the
USCF Executive Board is whether there should be "enforcement" of the
guidelines for allowing postings to the moderated USCF Issues Forum,
or whether that is insufficient and there should rather be "strict
enforcement".
Bill Goichberg feels that "enforcement" should be sufficient, but
Channing, Truong and Polgar insist that rather...
