copyright on chess games by guenter
has this ever been decided by some court, whether you can claim copyright for chessgames or positions and then successfully prevent others from publishing the moves ? Suppose some tournament, where players agree to submit the rights on the games to the organizer who claims copyright. Although the spectators and journalists can follow the moves they mustn't publish them, else they are sued.

I am hereby suspending "Rob Mitchell" from posting to the FIDE-chess Yahoo Group by samsloan
I am hereby suspending Rob Mitchell from posting to the FIDE-chess Yahoo Group. This group has only one rule which is that everybody who posts to the group must reveal their real name. The publicly posted rule states: "This group does not allow anonymous postings or postings under fake names." It is obvious from his postings today that "Rob Mitchell" has no intention of complying with this...

Mensa Model for Chess by Old Haasie
The ideal national chess federation would look somewhat like the American Mensa organization. A portion of the national dues would be shared directly with metropolitan scaled umbrella organizations, one such umbrella per metro area. The umbrella would use the money to promote chess in various ways including the production of tournaments. Old Haasie

Brian P. Lafferty behaves like a 3 year old by Jackass Lafferty
My 3 year old nephew probably plays chess better than the asshole lawyer Brian P. Lafferty. He certainly behaves better than the asshole lawyer Brian P. Lafferty. What a jackass!

Who's the biggest asshole? Brian Lafferty, Brenan Nierman or Sam Sloan? by Jackass Lafferty
Funny -- I've seen Lafferty take the same approach when he loses a debate with me also. It's sort of like players on ICC who lose a few blitz games and then start insisting that you were beaten every game -- even though they typically finished a piece or more down, near mate, with no time on their clock. Somehow they try to run away and simultaneously justify their own victory to themselves. A...

Do Polgar and Truong deserve a Honeymoon? by samsloan
Actually Brenan, you are mistaken in your claim above. Paul and Susan were not the originators of the anti-Sam Sloan campaign. Yes, they did complain about Sam's web site being a mar on the public image of the USCF and Executive Board, that he was now a member of, then.

Susan's Secret Plan has failed to reveal itself by samsloan
This sounds reasonable but the problem is that during the election campaign, she never revealed or hinted at what her secret plan for the USCF was. Many of us assumed that she had a plan that would reveal itself once she got on the board. She has now been on the board for two weeks and I have attended all of the meetings that were held thus far. So far, she has said nothing of substance other...

Motion to Remove Louis Blair from the Forum Moderation Oversight Committee by samsloan
Motion to Remove Louis Blair from the Forum Moderation Oversight Committee I agree completely with Don Schultz. We should not discuss personalities except in confidence. However, Bill Goichberg has forced us to do otherwise by abruptly without any prior discussion making a motion to create a Forum Moderation Oversight Committee consisting of eight specifically named people. This was not the...

Vermont Chess Clubs brace for impact by Chess One
About a week ago a fierce challenge was offered by Marcus, activating the little-known contingency plan by Vermont Volunteer Chess Corps for self defense! Already the Navy consists of two kayaks and a raft of maple-syrup cans which now floats, and staffed by 5 naked Brattleboro woman, and heavily armed with pine cones long-soaked in maple-syrup, and called, 'sticky bombs'. The Land Militia,...

Membership fees: An unnecessary tax on real players, or a benefit? by Chess One
THIS thread originated in the Fide Chess Group, based on 1/8 of Sam Sloan's final motions, and orbits the topic of fees for services. Sounds like you have a low-affinity attitude, to me. USCF hasn't the time to deal with such folk; they should be ignored. I know you are being funny, Ken. The office cannot afford to ignore the needs of the groups that actually SELL

Trollgar's Dilemma by samsloan
Trollgar's Dilemma I find it interesting that the Trollgars are now caught in the same dilemma that they tried to catch me. If they squeal, they are revealing confidential information. However, if they remain silent, they have become part of the conspiracy.
