Polgar Moving Back to Hungary - Is this an April Fools Joke? by
samsloan
It is posted on Susan Polgar's Official Blog too, so it does not seem
that it would be a hoax.
http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2008/04/im-moving-back-to-hungary.html
However, I still find it to be highly likely that this is an April
Fools Day joke.
We will find out tomorrow for sure.

GetClub's real purpose revealed by
Ray Gordon, creator of the \pivot\
I think it's some government experiment designed to weed out the stupid,
i.e., those who get sucked in to its soap opera.
(Um, this is parody).

Ray's Solution To The Draw Problem In Chess by
Ray Gordon, creator of the \pivot\
How about this:
Both sides have to play to a forced ending.
If stalemate, perpetual check, or the fifty-move rule is reached, each side
gets an additional queen, each time a "draw" occurs.
This would not change the rules of the game, yet it would eliminate draws,
and it would have the side effect of changing a lot of opening and endgame
theory very subtly.

Has Checkers Been Solved? by
samsloan
It has been published that checkers has been solved. See:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/317/5844/1518
However, I am hearing that checkers has not been solved at all. Only
free-style checkers has been solved. Tournament style checkers where
there is a drawing to determine the first three moves is still an
actively contested game.
Which is true? Does anybody know?

A Polgar Supporter Speaks--"Act Like An Adult" by
Brian Lafferty
From Polgar's Blog:
by Anonymous
Susan and others:
I have to put forward that I don't think this joke was a bit funny. And,
yes, I guessed it quickly from the clues.
Firstly, let me say that Susan, you are representing approx. 82 thousand
USCF members and as a CEO of USCF are a "public" representative.

More Suzie Chesspiece Hubris by

From Her Blog:
To anon 9:53am:
Thanks for your comment. However, I disagree. It is one day of the year
which we can joke and laugh in good fun. Unfortunately, many things in
the article are true.
I am fed up with the behavior of some of my colleagues. I am disgusted
that they wanted to use my children as pawns in their political games. I
am appalled of the unethical conducts by some board...

Where Lies "Some Basis For Truth?" by
Brian Lafferty
From the Times Gambit Blog:
"In a telephone interview last night, Mrs. Polgar sounded bittersweet as
she said the story was a joke, but "some parts of it have some basis for
truth.'"

us, bad for the Hungarians) is a joke or not.

Mitchell vs Sloan 2008 by
Rob
Here is the recent loss Sloan suffered. Jerry Nash of the USCF
officiated the match. It was a single game, no time limit. Mitchell
drew white and began the game. Sloan defended with black.
At the end of the game Nash presented Mitchell with a cashiers check
in the amount of 10k.
Here is the PGN

Looks like Susie Chesspiece won't be going to Hungary after all. What a

Is this really going to happen?
Is this what we discussed at the Nashville planning session? Was this
premature? I thought I was to handle the releases.

Bobby Fischer WAS HELPING Kasparov, Korchnoi, and Topalov!!!! by
Alex
Some people have found Bobby' laptop and started going through his
files.
They found some old e-mails he sent. It turns out he was giving
advice to Korchnoi, Kasparov, and even Topalov. He came up with that
Nxf7 novelty that Topalov played against Kramnik:

Chess Environmentalism by
J.D. Walker
Hello Chess Friends,
Thirsting for new subjects in this newsgroup, I caught the following at
Susan's blog the other day:
http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2008/03/wwwsofiapolgarcom.html
I did not know that Zsofia was a painter or that she was interested in
international environmental issues. Perhaps we do not hear enough about
the third Polgar sister.
