Sam Sloan, June Candidate's Statement - Still working on it by
samsloan
I played in my First USCF Rated Tournament, the North Carolina Open,
in 1956. As a tournament player for more than 50 years, just about
everybody in chess knows me or has heard my name.
The USCF has annual revenues of $3.2 million, down from $6.5 million
at its peak. $3.2 million is enough for us to live very well. Yet, the
USCF has lost money for 9 of the last 11 years. There is no excuse...

The Award for "Shining Light on the USCF 2007" by
samsloan
Bill Goichberg was severely critical of the group that had presented
me with the award for "Shining Light on the United States Chess
Federation 2007". Goichberg arrived just a few minutes after I had
been given the award and he angrily went around complaining about it.
I suspect that whomever told him that it was a "joke" did so to
deflect criticism from Goichberg.
There were about one thousand...

Use of Discussion Groups for personal attacks by
Rob
It's very tiresome to readnothing but personal attacks. It is childish
and counter productive. Persons interested in organized chess
activities who may searching these groups for more information is
likely to be turned off by all of these banal comments.
You may do as you like. Just realize that you do yourself and chess
the greatest disservice by continuing along this path.

Can I order court transcripts online? by
samsloan
I have two kinds of transcripts I need made:
1. I have been attending regular hearings in court in South Carolina.
I am appealing so I need the transcripts for appeal. The hearings have
been recorded on standard audio tape. How much will it cost to make a
transcript from this?
2. I am a member of the Executive Board of the United States Chess
Federation. Our meetings are tape recorded. You can...

The USCF Check for $24,000 has bounced a second time by
samsloan
After receiving assurances that the money was in the bank in the right
account this time, the pension check for $24,000 was redeposited.
The word has just come back that the check has bounced again.
The person involved intends to contact the Attorney General's office.
I wonder what excuse Goichberg, Channing, Hall & Co. will come up for
the second bouncing of this pension check.

Rob Mitchell's Call to Bill Hall by
samsloan
Today, Rob Mitchell called USCF Executive Director Bill Hall to advise
and recommend that he retain counsel to file suit against Sam Sloan
for revealing that Bill Hall has often been absent from work.
It is not likely that Bill Hall will take this advice because such a
suit would be without legal basis since the members have a right to
know and therefore Sam Sloan has an obligation to reveal...

Don't say what, say when. by
Chess One
She wrote this on Friday, April 13th when Mike Nolan had started the
thread on the Forums back in February! Yes, the USCF needs to do
better. However, GM Polgar has repeatedly complained that others do
not write a simple email to see if things are being fixed or for
explanations of situations about which others have questions. Here, GM
Polgar violates her own advice by jumping on a situation that...

A Serious Problem with MonRoi and the US Championship by
samsloan
Joe Lux has uncovered a serious problem with Monroi. If he did not
discover it, he is the first to report it.
It seems that two newspapers have refused to publish game scores that
first appeared on the Monroi website, because MonRoi is claiming a
copyright on the games.
It is well established that scores of a chess game cannot be
copyrighted. However, the USCF is in no position to go to court...

My USCF executive board choices by
Zero
I read the profiles in the recent monthly issue of CL. I like Sam
Sloan and that guy from San Francisco that has done all those cool
things and he like has roomates with 3 chess players.
also that guy who has a phd and a law degree seemed really cool too.
he seemed like he was really smart and we need smart leaders in charge
of the uscf.
the other statements were really boring meaning that...

will Brian Lafferty also be vetting Sloan's "Sailor Moon" pages? by
TlonUqbarOT@gmail.com
Not here to defend résumé puffery (I avoid the l-word). It's wrong,
and it's often grounds for discharge in the Real World.
Having said that, some things are worse than résumé puffery. See
links below.
Also, the "Esq." is amusing: does this indicate a lifetime Class E
title?
