There is no "Staunton" per se as a manufacturer. The Staunton design dates
from around 1849, and was patented by Nathaniel Cooke. The design was
endorsed and popularized (one of the first "celebrity" endorsements) by
Howard Staunton, an English chess champion of the time. The Staunton design
was originally manufactured by Jaques (say "Jakes") of London, which is
still in business www.jaques.co.uk . One might say that if you want a
"true" Staunton set, it would be from Jaques of London. The Staunton design
is virtually the world standard for tournament play. Check out
www.houseofstaunton.com for some really top-flight Staunton-design sets in
everything from ivory to ebony to plastic. They also carry the top-end sets
from Jaques of London too.

New job figures and other recent economic data show that America's economy
is strong and getting stronger - and that the President's jobs and growth
plan is working. The Labor Department announced that employers added 288,000
new jobs in April. In total, over 1.1 million jobs have been added since
August, with 8 consecutive months of gains.America has a choice: It can
continue to grow the economy and create new jobs as the President's policies
are doing; or it can raise taxes on American families and small businesses,
hurting economic recovery and future job creation.
