Default Why Greg Shahade Resigned?

It not has become apparent why Greg Shahade abruptly resigned from the
USCF Executive Board. The answer can be found in Section 2 (a) of the
"Standards of Conduct" at
http://www.uschess.org/org/govern/conduct.html which states:

"(a) Except where noted below, no Executive Board member or a member
of his immediate family may receive financial compensation from the
USCF for any reason, except for standard reimbursement of expenses,
during his tenure on the Board, or for two years after completing his
tenure if such compensation results from bids accepted or agreements
made by the Board during his tenure."

Greg's sister Jennifer was applying for a job at the USCF. It is
obvious from this provision that she was barred from being given this
job as long as Greg was on the board.

It perhaps should be mentioned that Beatriz Marinello flagarently
violated this rule by hiring herself as Chief Operating Officer while
she was also USCF President. Fortunately, Greg decided not to go that
illegal route.

Subsequently, we have learned that Jennifer has in fact been hired.
This probably comes close to crossing the line. However, I doubt that
there will be many complaints. It is far better that a real chess
player be hired, rather than the non-chess players who are so often
working for the USCF.

IIRC, she didn't receive financial compensation other than expense
reimbursement.

I am astonished that Paul Rubin of all people would make this
statement, because Paul Rubin has for years been saying that USCF
membership should be free or else cost no more than five dollars per
year. Where would the USCF get the money to operate if your plan went
into effect?

The "expense reimbursement" Beatriz Marinello was $350 per week cash
non accountable tax-free expenses plus the USCF paid her car parking
fees, her car rental fees, her hotel bills and other expenses. For the
first three months of 2005, January through March, Beatriz Marinello
received a bit more than $10,000. How much she received after March
has never been revealed.

I know that I would have been happy to have such a "volunteer" job,
and I know many others would would be happy to have that job too.

At the USCF Delegate's meeting in Phoenix, August 13 and 14, 2005,
Beatriz revealed that during this period she had wrecked her car
requiring a $4,000 repair bill. She never addressed the question of
who paid the $4,000. Did Beatriz pay it, did insurance pay it, or did
the USCF pay it?

Why Greg Shahade resigned? Because he's a selfish son of a bitch. He
got elected to get his sister a job. People trusted him enough to elect
him so he can resign after he convinced other board members to give
Chess Bitch a good paying job. He's not even in chess anymore. He's in
poker. Get it?
