Well here is my opinion.

1.d4 d5

2.c4 e6

3.Nc3 Nf6

4.cxd5 exd5

That exchange solves his inactive bishop problem.

5.Nf3 Bb4

6.e3 Ne4

Piling up on pinned piece but neglecting to castle.

7.Qc2 Bf5

8.Bd3 Nxc3

9.bxc3 Bxd3

10.Qxd3 Ba5

11.Ba3!

Prevents black from castling kingside.

11.....Nc6

Striving to clear the way for queenside castling.

12.e4 Bb6

Castling was called for. Black bishop did not need to move.
Moving him provided white with the crucial tempo he needed to keep the pressure on the

uncastled black king.

13.O-O Qd7

The consequence!
14.exd5 Ne7
A queen retake on the e7 would obviously expose him to an attack allong the e file with a white rook losing the queen pinned agsainst the king..

15.Bxe7 Kxe7
A king that had lost his chance to castle queenside when the bishop lost a tempo with B-b6.

16.Ne5 Qd6

Cutting off communication between rooks and keeping black's h1 Rook out of the game for now and needs at least two tempos to activate him along the first rank with a pawn move and a king move. Add that to the tempo lost with the move B-b6 and that makes three lost tempos.

17.Rfe1 Kf8

18.Qf5 Qxd5

19.Nd7+ Kg8

Forks the king and the loose queen.
King must move and the unprotected queen is lost.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The question is could black have held on longer by moving somewhere else instead of into a discovered attack with a check.

Well, 18....Q-f6 isn't possible either because the knight would fork queen and king by going to d7.

The only available defensive move I see is P--f6. It isn't threatening to take the knight since it is pinned and doesn't prevent a check on d7, but it prevents mate on f7 and is better than the other two blunders.

20.Qxd5
1-0

BTW
Please note that all games no matter what level are lost by one or the other player making some mistake based on oversight.
You definitely deserve credit for noting the black king's vulnerability and for your skill in honing in on it with the pieces.
