This is a weird game that was lost completely on move 24. ... f6

Analysis tends to suggest that 24. Ra7 permitted near equality with
either
24. ... Bxb5 and a quick swap off simplification on that square towards
a probable draw.
or
24. ... g5 and simplifiying later (Shredder prefers this move at 17+
ply depth)

On the face of it less aggressive 24. Rc2 seems to hold onto more
advantage for white.

What I find startling is that in several of these games positions have
been lost suddenly by a tactical blunder that a quick check with any
modern chess engine would find easily.

I wonder how much stronger would a GM & chess engine scratch pad be in
match play?

This latest one is amazing - out of 43 possible moves it appears that 8
of them are better than the 24. ... f6 actually played (according to
Shredder 10 at 17 ply search)

(but only 2 are good enough to stay in the game with realistic chances)

Regards,
Martin Brown
