Default Beautiful game Camp vs Wolfe 1992

I don't agree, Rob. This game is full of mistakes, and Black won
only by a fluke. White was actually better most of the game until is
last move. A few comments below:

This is more correctly called a Latvian Gamibt or Greco Counter-
gambit.

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f5 3. Nc3 -- White seems unfamiliar with theory. Best
are 3.Nex5 or 3.Bc4, both of which come close to winning by force if
Black is not extremely careful. -- 3...Nc6 4. Bc4 Bb4 5. Nd5 Nf6 6. c3
fxe4 7. Ng5 Nxd5 8. Nf7 Kxf7 9. Bxd5+ Ke8 10. cxb4 Nxb4 11. Bxe4?! --
Better 11. Qh5+ Ke7 12. Qf7+ Kd6 13. Bxe4. -- 11... Qf6 12. O-O d5 13.
Qa4+ Nc6 14.Bxd5 Bd7 15. d3 Qg6 16. g3?! -- Unnecessary. g3 was
already defended. Better 16. Be4 Qd6 followed by 17. Bg5, 17. Qb3, or
17. Be3 --- 16...Nd4 17. Qd1 -- Better 17. Qc4 -- 17... Bg4 18. Qa4+
-- Better 18. f3 c6 19. Be4 Bf5 20. Be3 -- 18...c6 19. Be4 Qf6 20. Be3
Ne2+ 21. Kh1?? -- A terrible blunder. White was probably still winning
after 21. Kg2.

Looking up "Camp, R" on the USCF rating list, I see no one rated
over 1242, and the one from California is rated only 1033. The only
two rated D. Wolfe's from California are 1521 and 1286, and the
highest-rated player in the whole country by that name is only 1535.
So it's not surprising that this game is rather inept.

Indeed. But 21... Qf3+ is a very nice move, to be fair.

It is - but black could have played 21...Bf3+ as well.

Yebbut that only gets three points of nice and the queen sac gets nine.
Well, six points of nice after the bishop is recaptured.

Also very obvious. To qualify as "beautiful" a game should have
strong moves that are also difficult to find. Both White and Black
played rather poorly through move 20, White somewhat less poorly. The
fact that White then made a blunder that allowed a queen sac hardly
qualifies the game as beautiful.

That's why I was careful to describe only that move as nice. We're
fundamentally in agreement, here.
