Default Newbie Q on Slav Defence

Hi there,

I'd appreciate a quick bit of feedback on the following sequence.

1. d4 d5
2. c4 c6
3. Nf3

In the above position why is .. d5xc4 considered a bad move?

Is it because white can play f3-e5 , guaranteeing the retake of the pawn
while being then ahead in development or is there more to it than that?

It's because after White plays 4.e3, the game is a Queen's Gambit
Accepted. Normally the move .... c6 is not often played in the QGA.
one point of the QGA is that Black gets to play .....c4 quickly. It's
not a losing move (necessarily), but it could lead to positions where
Black is a tempo behind.

One point is that after 4....b5 isn't very good. White can recover the
Pawn (5.a4 starts the process) an Black's Queenside is rather
compromised.

After:1.d4 d5, 2.c4 dc4, 3.Nf3, Black usually plays something
like ....a6 or ....e6 or ...Nf6 rather than ...c6.
