Default why do chess stars stop playing chess?

I don't understand why some players who become a the "poster kids" of chess suddenly stop playing altogether. Like Tal Shaked, David Arnett, Anna kahn, Josh Waitzkin, Max Dlugy, Joel Lautier, Ferdinand Hellers, among some names.

just curious why people spend so much time to get good and then decide to quit.

Perhaps because they were smarter than the rest of us.

They got bored with it or found 'better' more fullfilling things to do...

They found a more lucrative profession. Chess requires lots of time and energy and doesn't pay well at all. After all, it's just a game.

Bobby Fisher said that he simply developed a strong dislike for chess.
There were early indications based on some statements made at the height of his prowess that he was indeed developing a strong aversion for the game. In that he is similar to Morphy. The difference is that Morphy was far more vehement in his statements and tended to overreact at the mere mention of the game in his later years. Morphy's reaction was more understandable since he had suffered great frustrations in his attempts at securing a world-championship match. Fisher, in contrast, quite at the height of chess success and that is what makes his renunciation much more difficult for some to fathom. There also seems t5o be a very strong reluctance to take Bobby at his word when he claims that he got to hate the game while Morphy's explanations are accepted at face value. Perhaps there is an American nee to keep Bobby as an icon whereas keep[in Moprphy a such wasn't such a big deal.
