Default question on scheveningen defense...

I recently played the following game as white...

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Be3 e6 7. Be2 Nc6 8. f4 Be7
9. O-O O-O 10. Qe1 Nxd4 11. Bxd4 b5 12. a3 Bb7 13. Bf3 Nd7 14. Rd1 Qc7 15. Qg3 e5 16. fxe5 dxe5
17. Be3 Rad8 18. Kh1 Kh8 19. Rd3 { to prevent 19...Bxa3 and 20...Qxc3} Bc5 20. Nd1 a5 21. Qh4 Rfe8 *

I read somewhere that in the scheveningen, allowing 10...Nxd4 is a positional mistake and that I must utilize my space advantage my removing my knight from d4 to avoid exchanges. is this true?

Other than that, is there any other improvement that I could have done?

Thanks

It might be. I don't know enough modern opening theory to comment.
But if it is then I don't think any chess engine can see the mistake.

Other than that, is there any other improvement that I could have done?

It is pretty close to level so close I suspected my new Fritz14 engine
was playing up. I did a quick analysis on the positions I thought might
be interesting and found the following minor refinements.

9. Qd2 O-O 10. O-O-O Qc7 may be better for white than the line played
9. e5 Nd5 10. NxN exN exd6

17. Be3 allows black 17. ... Bc5 BxB NxB with a slight advantage

also playable are

19. Nd5 BxN 20. RxB Qxc2 21. Rfd1 Qc7
19. Qf2 Bxa3 20. Nxb5 axN 21. bxB Ra8

The lines found are in the cloud. A couple of other engines had already
taken a look. A couple of games had gone down this sort of path before
according to my 2006 version of Chessbase white lost 2 drew 1.

Incidentally whilst my new Fritz14 software links OK to my Chessbase9
the reverse is not true which is a PITA. Anyone know how to fix it?
