Default Strongest chess engine now available for purchase: Fruit

Probably the strongest single-processor chess engine is now available
for purchase at http://www.fruitchess.com

Fruit 2.2 : placed second at the 2005 World Computer Chess
Championships, beaten only by Zappa (not publicly available) and beating
various Chessbase engines. Fruit 2.2 is a closed-source improvement to
the open-source Fruit 2.1, and is about 70 ELO stronger.

Currently top of the CEGT rating list ahead of Shredder9 and Fritz9:

I am a happy user / customer, not otherwise linked to the product.

Why is it called Fruit?

What a strange name for a chess program. :-)

Well, since some enterprising guy took the name `chess' in the 1970s,
people have had to use stranger and stranger names since.
