Default Why has Joel Channing demanded and received $822.19 and $165.40 in reimbursements?

Why has Joel Channing demanded and received $822.19 and $165.40 in
reimbursements?

When Joel Channing ran for USCF election in 2005, it was said that he
was an extremely wealthy man, with a net worth of $100,000,000.
Recently, Don Schultz again referred to Joel Channing as having "the
Midas Touch".

However, we see that Channing has received $822.19 and $165.40 in
reimbursement of expenses in attending meetings of the USCF board.

3/3/06 65961 CDJ JOEL CHANNING 165.40

When a wealthy man runs for election, he will attract a lot of votes,
for the reasons that the voters feel that he has financial acumen, that
he will not be a burden on the taxpayers, and that he will not steal.

On the strength of being very wealthy, not only was Mr. Channing
elected, but he was immediately made VP of Finance, since he claimed to
have a lot of knowledge of business and finance.

We thought that Joel Channing would be another Fan Adams, who not only
did not charge the USCF for his expenses in attending board meetings,
but also attended FIDE meetings in Europe entirely at his own expense.

Thus, it is shocking that Joel Channing, with all his supposedly great
wealth, would charge the USCF, which is in dire and desperate financial
straights due to the more than $300,000 the USCF has lost since Joel
Channing became VP of Finance. It is surprising that Mr. Channing would
bill the USCF for amounts like $822.19 and $165.40 for attending board
meetings.

Even the lowly Bauer has promised that he will not charge the USCF for
attending board meetings (provided that he does not make it to the
White House of course).

Meanwhile, while paying himself $822.19, Channing refuses to pay Sam
Sloan the standard $50 per day food allowance for attending the four
days of meetings in Chicago.

An incident took place at the conclusion of the August 13-14, 2006
board meetings in Chicago. The meetings were over and I was in the
process of going through the doors with my wife and four-year-old
daughter to go to the parking lot to drive the 836 miles home from
Chicago to New York, when Jerry Hanken called me back and said that
Channing wanted to invite us to dinner.

Although I was anxious to get home, for the sake of the collegiality
that Mr. Channing keeps writing about, I reluctantly agreed.

I have regretted accepting his invitation ever since, because he keeps
bringing it up, saying that I owe him some favor for accepting his
dinner invitation.

All of the board members present were at the dinner table, with the
exception of Bill Goichberg who had left promptly as usual. Randy Hough
sat next to me.

Mr. Hough finished his meal relatively quickly and left earlier than
the rest of us. Mr. Hough obviously thought that he had been invited to
dinner, just as I had been.

When the waitress arrived with the check, Joel Channing studied it and
then, pointing to the empty seat Mr. Hough had left, said, "I am not
paying for him".

As a result, the hotel staff had to chase down Mr. Hough and demand
payment in the hotel lobby, causing great embarrassment to Mr. Hough.

I find this uncouth behavior by Mr. Channing to be unbecoming of a man
who, it is claimed, is worth $100 million. Any other person would have
paid the bill and asked Mr. Hough privately for the money back later.

Frankly, now that I have observed Mr. Channing close at hand while
financial issues were being discussed, I am inclined to doubt his
claims of financial expertise. He seems to know little about finance.
He often proclaims that "Cash is King" and has changed the USCF office
accounting system to the Joel Channing Accounting System, which now
means double work for the newly hired CFO, Joe Nanna, who must now
change the system back to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Applied on a Consistent Basis.

This is a truly astounding posting. Anybody should be able to see that
you are setting it up to blame me, Sam Sloan, for the huge financial
losses the USCF will again be suffering this year.

I am the one who is questioning expenditures and who is trying to keep
the USCF afloat for at least a little while longer. You are the one
making lavish expenditures such as the $50,000 makeover, the $10,000
"Retreat" for all board members to Florida, the $10,000 for the
fundraiser who never raised any funds and who was out of work because
he had spent or lost all of the funds he had raised previously. And,
while you are spending money on these foolish ventures, the USCF is
losing money big time.

You and Bill Goichberg are like Mr. Micawber, a man who was certain
that "something good will surely turn up".

You talk about Sam as this person with irresponsibilities, bad
behaviour etc, etc, etc. Well just about everyone in these NG's know
that this is what Sam is. I don't like the guy either but this I will
say. With Sam what you see is what you get. However I wonder with
all the dirt with the elected officials at USCF and skeletons in the
closets why put up this phisod as if you innocent. It is obvious that
a lot of bad things have happened in the USCF and to actually believe
that everyone is innocent except Sam shows that your the clowns who
need to get a life. Sam doesn't hide who he is but many at USCF do.
So don't try to disguise yourselves as these moral figures that run
the USCF because that is far from it.
