Default Recommend chess program?

Hi all. The Rebel decade program used to say what plays were being made,
when you played against it, like "Caro Kann", "Sicilian" etc. Unfortunately,
it doesnt run onWindows XP. Are there any other fairly strong chess programs
that run on Windows, that can call plays in this fashion, as you are
playing? Are any of these programs free software?

Thanks for any info.

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/downlo...ec762691a301bf

DOSBox

Download "Windows 0.65 Win32 installer"
Install it
Run it

when you get a dos prompt, type "mount k c:\rebdec"
(c:\rebdec is where you installed Rebel decade)
type "k:" to chage directory to k
Run rebel decade by typing 'start' or 'rebel'

Any comments?

I want to test it again.

Oh, thanks a lot!

I got Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 as a free download.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir...loads/sp1.mspx

I installed VPC on this home computer with Windows XP
(pentium 4 - 2.4 with 1024 RAM)

Then, I installed MS-DOS 6.22 within VPC
and finally installed Rebel12 for DOS.

Well, it worked out.

That is a great idea. But unfortunately for me, XP home under SP-2, neither
a Dosbox installation, nor a microsoft Virtual PC one has worked, whether it
is rebel 12 or rebel decade... nice idea though...

Executable made on 11-11-2006

Personality Path personal/REBEL.ENG (0)
Personality description Pro Deo 1.2 (November 2006)

Initial Hash Table Size 48 Mb
Current Hash Table Size 48 Mb

[Personality = REBEL.ENG] * Pro Deo 1.2 (November 2006)
[Pawn Value = 100] * Tune value Pawn
[Knight Value = 100] * Tune value Knight

it seems that you have to change REBEL.ENG to other personalities.
But, I can't tell it for sure.

To use Prodeo with scid, refer to this link.
