It is odd to find such a quality set, mass produced and available to
a large number of the public. Designed by Kasparov it says on the
box, hard to believe.

It may be difficult to find such a set in Australia, but not in the rest of
the world.

Ha! A thinly veiled sales attempt - it's not much -just a travel set. Try the 300+ sets at ChessBaron in USA, UK, France and Canada. Then there's all the handheld and desktop chess computers too. Designed by Kasparov? Yeah - he has time whilst fighting Putin to design a $50 chess set.

That's not a good set. The pieces are too big for the squares.

These are good sets:

The first one looks like plastic. Here are some good ones:

Many players prefer high-quality weighted plastic colored
black and ivory chessmen on a green and cream "mousepad"
rollup board to anything made out of wood. Visibility and
contrast is better, the plastic allows more detailed pieces
and the set is almost indestructible.

I have one relatively high-quality plastic set (high quality as far as
plastic sets go) and about 25 wood sets. The details are better in
the wood sets. The website I gave does have some good plastic sets,
but good wood sets are better.

I have a mousepad board, but I don't use it because the pieces don't
slide on it.

This was directed at someone else, but I'm convinced that the best
bang for the buck is this one:

There are often new ones on eBay for a low price.
