What is a good _freeware_ chess program for Windows ? With showing
possible moves, taking back move, engine: easy to difficult, changing
colors, saving ini, saving game etc.

A good, free, small and easy to setup (its own GUI and easy settings)
program,
suitable for a beginner, is Slowchess Blitz, at
http://www.3dkingdoms.com/chess/slow.htm

Not the absolute top (somewhere around place 20 in the computer programs
rating lists)
but fully capable to beat a grandmaster on a fast PC.

Fritz 5.32 is very good. Lots of features.
Der Bringer is very easy to use.
