Default Polgar Punts on Trip to Beijing

Polgar started this controversy on Friday, July 25, 2008 by demanding
to know why she was not invited to represent the US in the World Mind
Games Championship in Beijing October 3-18, 2008.

Polgar wrote on her chess discussion group, "This is how the USCF does
business, with lack of competence, direction, and full of arrogance".

Although the deadline was long past, the USCF has responded by
agreeing to send Polgar to China.

Now that she has been invited, Polgar is refusing to play or is
demanding conditions that cannot possibly be accepted.

Meanwhile, the Chinese are lining up their top players to throw at her
if she ultimately does play. It is to be recalled that Susan refused
to defend her Woman's World Championship title in 1999 against a
Chinese opponent.

Polgar will not have an easy time of it if she changes her mind again.
This will be no patzer tournament, unlike every event since 1996 where
Polgar has either had very weak opposition or got to pick her
opponents, with the exception of the 2004 World Chess Olympiad.

Meanwhile, Sam Sloan is still trying to go to China as the US
representative in Chinese Chess or Xiangqi. Sloan is willing to travel
to China at his own expense provided that he gets to play in the
Xiangqi competition.

Right now, it looks like Polgar is not agreeing to play in China.

But the USCF has nothing to do with this, correct?

Yes it looks like she is asking why she wasn't invited to the dance
she didn't want to go to anyway. I guess some of us have big points to
prove - or perhaps lawsuits to defend.
