Default Gregory Alexander's Prospective Defense

Gregory Alexander has posted today something he has said at least one
hundred times previously:

"Mr. Bogner has had a very long history of unethical dealings, and
with Mr. Halls consent; has stooped into hacking into private areas of
the USCF in order to use private conversations to launch political
attacks."

http://www.chessdiscussion.com/phpBB...php?f=4&t=1526

However, he usually makes this charge about Brian Mottershead, not Hal
Bogner.

What this is all about is that shortly after Brian Mottershead set up
the new USCF website, Gregory Alexander complained that there was
something wrong with this account.

Therefore, Brian Mottershead, as website administrator, went into his
account and fixed what ever was wrong.

This caused Gregory Alexander to accuse Brian Mottershead of "hacking"
into his account.

Of course, this was not hacking. The administrator of any website has
the right to access that website.

However, right now, even as we write this, Gregory Alexander is being
investigated for hacking into Bill Goichberg's account and of being
the "John Doe" that is the target of the court case USCF vs. Does
1-10.

What I am thinking is that if they ever prove that Gregory Alexander
did this, then his defense will be that since they did this to him, he
had the right to do this to them.

Do you think that defense will fly?

In fact this "quote" actually begins "IMO, Mr. Bogner has had a very..."
There's quite a difference between opinion and fact. It's dishonest not to
quote correctly here. Shame on you.

Good luck,
Dave M.

I did not write the quote above. It was written by Gregory Alexander,
the person who really does have a record of unethical dealing.

I did not write the quote above.

What are you arguing, that you did not write what you quoted or that you
misquoted Mr. Alexander's post?

It was written by Gregory Alexander,
the person who really does have a record of unethical dealing.

Perhaps. I don't know Mr. Alexander. That does not excuse the misquote.
Mr. Alexander did not write what you quoted.

Good luck,

Yes, he did. Here is the full quote from Gregory Alexander:

Questionable journalism?

Postby gregory on Tue Oct 07, 2008 12:12 am
I am not surprised that the author nit-picks instead of focusing on
the very positive aspects of SPICE. His coverage of the recent events
have been extremely one sided in the course of the last year. I
question the sources of the people around him that feed him their
version of 'news'.

It should be noted that Mr. Bogner is also a developer/contractor with
the NY Times and he provides some of the technology built for his
chessmagnet enterprise. IMO, Mr. Bogner has had a very long history of
unethical dealings, and with Mr. Halls consent; has stooped into
hacking into private areas of the USCF in order to use private
conversations to launch political attacks.

It is most surprising that McClain has not researched, nor reported
some very negative politicking by the some of the folks on the other
side.

Even when the news is very positive for chess, McClain just has to
find something negative and put it in. Nitpicking is fine in
journalism as long as it is done in a partial and balanced way; but so
far I have just read McClain's nitpicking being soley directed at one
side.

Just my take,

Gregory

Sam,

He did not write: "Mr. Bogner has had a very long history of unethical

the USCF in order to use private conversations to launch political
attacks."

He wrote: "IMO, Mr. Bogner has had a very long history of unethical

You left off the beginning of the sentence. You gave no indication that
you left off the beginning of the sentence ( i.e. "...Mr. Bogner has had a
long..." ). The beginning of the sentence is important in this context.
Your posts show what you have done and your failure to admit your
misquote speaks to your honesty.

Good luck,
Dave M.

Dave, you are beginning to see what we on the chess newsgroups have
known about Sam Sloan for years.

To use Gregory Alexander's own term, you are "nitpicking".

Gregory Alexander has made the accusation hundreds of times on every
possible forum that somebody hacked into his account. We have been
hearing this for the past year. I believe that the original incident
he complains about took place in around October 2007.

His full statement above was grammatically unintelligible but we know
what he meant, since he has made the same statements so many times.
