BTW, I read on the USCF Forum this morning that Donna Alarie is not only
endorsing Sevan Muradian, he is her #1 pick in the election. If Sevan
runs, this is going to be a wildly interesting election campaign. Two
people, USCF Delegates (with clear fiduciary duties of loyalty to the
USCF), who refused to honor USCF information subpoenas from USCF counsel
in the Polgar litigation(s). Very sweet.

You must have gotten Allen Priest confused with somebody else.

Allen Priest first joined the USCF in 2003. He is a scholastic
organizer although he has an over-the-board rating of 654.

http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlMain.php?12874976

He first appeared at a USCF Delegates meeting in Dallas 2008, were he
made his presence felt by speaking to every single issue. He spoke far
more than anybody else and I estimate that 40% of the entire meeting
was spent listening to his speeches. He is a physically large, heavy
set man and he sat at the front of the room. He is so big and imposing
looking that it was difficult to see around him and to see the members
of the board seated on the dais while he was speaking.

He has a loud booming voice. Every time he spoke he supported
Goichberg, so we in the audience knew what he was going to say before
he said it. This explains why he has been appointed to important
positions like Chairman of the FOC, making him outrank the many who
have far more experience and knowledge of the issues than he does.

He constantly lectures us on how he is an expert on this or that
subject and why we should follow whatever says. At least he does not
claim to know more about chess than we do, because everyone here knows
more than he does about that subject.

I just checked, and his current USCF rating is 758. It was 654 back
in August 2008, but jumped to 764 in January of this year in the
Kentucky class championships. Then he lost a few points in the
Kentucky Open in June 2010 to arrive at his current 758.

Not major differences, but it's best to be accurate, Sam.

Thanks for that background.

Again, the point is: if Goichburg (sic) has done more for American
chess than everybody else combined, should he not hand pick his
supporters, even if they are rubber stamping stooges?

That's the issue.

It's best to pick the winning numbers in the lottery, too.

Which eventuality is the more probable, do you think?

You are probably thinking that this number, 654, is from a British
rating system or from some other kind of rating system different from
the USCF rating system.

You are probably thinking that it is not possible that any adult human
could have a rating this low.

or perhaps you are thinking that this is a typographical error and I
meant to write that his rating was 1654 or 1954 or 2054.

But you would be wrong. 654 was his actual USCF rating, although as
Taylor Kingston points out, his rating recently skyrocketed to 758.

I think the lowest-rated person I ever played was at 1045. I append
the dreadful game below, so that any readers who may be desparing
about their game may be comforted to know that someone else played
worse. I was in bad form that whole tournament, but still won this
game easily.
What I remember most about this game is that when I played 5.e5, he
tried to reply with 5...d5xe5. I asked him what he thought he was
doing, and he said "Capturing en passant." Had to get the TD to
straighten it out.

Yeah right, whatever. In fact, I've seen this guy NN around a lot--he
even played Alekhine. He's just sandbagging.
